Bogota, Colombia -- Ariel Perez was, like thousands of fellow Cuban doctors, a devoted soldier in Fidel Castro's most important overseas mission -- providing medical care to the poor in oil-rich Venezuela, Cuba's most vital ally. But last year, Perez and two Cuban companions, carrying rucksacks with a few belongings and holding just $1,300 among them, sneaked across the Colombian border and promptly defected.....

ping.
That's a lot of doctors, I wonder if they're real ones.
Big Brother made real by Castro -- but the lefties still love him.
I don't see why.
In the same sense the Cuba is a "real" democracy.
Exactly...But they've probably passed a basic first aid course.
As long as the 'health' of their population is good, everything else doesn't matter. They like to brag about how Cuba's mortality rates are low, on par with many developed countries. This article shows how those low rates were achieved.
This is very good news. The first cracks in OOgos rule.
Hehe When Cuber is better than venuzuela as a place to live, you got problems
I wonder if these Cuban "doctors" are really MD's, or if perhaps they just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
"Cuba has dispatched more than 20,000 doctors..."
Your Cuban doctor got his medical degree from WebMD, if you're lucky or connected politically.
I passed a basic first aid course but I wouldn't be performing surgery on "Il Cuce" like they do in Havana...heheh.
At least we know that there weren't any gastro-interologists left in Cuba - Castro had to import one from Spain....and the surgeon to operate on the problem.
Most of the 20,000 - my guess - would have a tough time becoming a Paramedic in the U.S.
I personally know several young doctors who are residents in hospitals here in America and in South America I have been around.
Fidel put together an Army of doctors to send into various countries and offer cheap or no cost medical services to the poor.
However, the catch is that they were also required to recruit those poor to the ideals of socialsim.
It was a brilliant idea and did convince quite a few people that Fidel and Cuba were indeed socialisisms gift to the world.
Hard to argue with free medical services.
Another however, is that some of these trained doctors are driving cabs and working as door men to subsidize their salaries in Havana.
These are MD slaves traded by Cuba to another country for oil.
All Leftists love a brutal police state. They'll make any excuse to ignore their crimes and oppresion. They're not pro-freedom - merely anti-American and anti-capitalist to the core of their rotten little hearts.

Trouble in socialist paradise.
If our country is so "unpopular", why is it that so many people want to come and live here? /s
