SEATTLE - Modern hunters rarely become more famous than Jim Zumbo. A mustachioed, barrel-chested outdoors entrepreneur who lives in a log cabin near Yellowstone National Park, he has spent much of his life writing for prominent outdoors magazines, delivering lectures across the country and starring in cable TV shows about big-game hunting in the West.
Zumbo's fame, however, has turned to black-bordered infamy within America's gun culture -- and his multimedia success has come undone. It all happened in the past week, after he publicly criticized the use of military-style assault rifles by hunters, especially those gunning for prairie dogs.

He didn't just "step off the reservation".
He committed a treasonous act, exacerbated by the the fact that he is was a well-known and respected firearms and hunting expert.
Emphasis on firearms.
He was a spokesperson for many manufacturers intimately associated with 2d Amendment issues.
His words will provide fodder for the Brady Bunch for a long time, his "apology" notwithstanding.
He deserved what he got.
The first amendment gives you the freedom to speak your mind.
It does not give you the freedom from the repercussions of what you say.
For a split second? I beg to differ. This division has been going on since the early clinton days. The fuds have been voting dem party while thinking no one would dare take their guns. That's been changed since the dems just took the congress and the senate. Now the anti's are going after .22's and shotguns along with semiautomatics.
If he had apologized with a true meaning it might have meant something. He still thinks as long as a gun is used for hunting somehow it will be safe from confiscation. He's wrong. The anti's are going for ALL OF THEM and this individual is helping.
The strange thing is firearms will be needed for self defense long after the last hunting reserve is paved over.
He has absoluutely no say in what tools I choose to spend my hard-earned $$$ on -- nor where or for what lawful purposes I elect to use them.
Why do people seem to be down on "select-fire" weapons here? The 2nd amendment prohibits the federal government from making laws relating to arms - period. It should be between me and the dealer if I want to go to a store and trade some cash for a piece of artillery. The government should not be involved. ALL federal laws restricting weapons ownership are immoral, illegal and should be repealed, as should any and all state laws.
All of you made alot of good points that made alot of sense. Thanks for all the input and rebuttals to my comments.
I guess I've seen to many here sarcastically say something similar, as though the first amendment offers immunity from the reactions of others.
You are the "stupid" fringe on FR. I assume you mean they are stupid because they are extreme, although I don't know how limited your vocabulary is because stupid is a elementary word mostly spoken by adults who do not know how to explain how they feel. Let's say the NRA is "extreme" for arguments sake. I like having an extreme element to balance out the leftist extremists. What is your excuse? Also, I always suspect someone who has to state their credentials before they make a point.
Just to nitpick, that's 40 years out of date. Regular infantry has been issued assault rifles for decades. It hasn't been limited to special forces since Korea.
bump it for later
Nothing wrong with being quick on the draw as long as you know where your rounds are going. Of course, since I am not a Muslim, the literal intent was rhetorical. I wrote that line to provoke outrage because the defense of one right is inseparable from the other. Sometimes clarity is a slap in the face.
Sarah Brady already has his quotes on her website, so get informed before you spew ignorance. The enemy has embraced his quotes and are now using them against us. That is not "stepping off the reservation", that is giving ais to the enemy, numbnuts'. Also, using the word reservation is considered racist these days, so get a clue and go hug your poodles, and clean off your Ikea furniture.
I know a RINO and a "cafeteria Conservative" when I see one.
When Ya' use the Bayonet...
Try it sometime...
I agree, that is what I was implying. However, they might try to be a little more subtle and finesse things. How about a lucrative position as "Shooting Sports Editor" for the Sierra Club. Probably not, though! The statists think they're in the home stretch and likely aren't interested in subtlety. /grin
