WASHINGTON Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama ridiculed Vice President Dick Cheney on Friday for saying Britain's decision to pull troops from Iraq is a good sign that fits with the strategy for stabilizing the country.
Obama, speaking at a massive outdoor rally in Austin, Texas, said British Prime Minister Tony Blair's decision this week to withdraw 1,600 troops is a recognition that Iraq's problems can't be solved militarily.
"Now if Tony Blair can understand that, than why can't George Bush and Dick Cheney understand that?" Obama asked thousands of supporters who gathered in the rain to hear him.
"In fact, Dick Cheney said this is all part of the plan (and) it was a good thing that Tony Blair was withdrawing, even as the administration is preparing to put 20,000 more of our young men and women in.
"Now, keep in mind, this is the same guy that said we'd be greeted as liberators, the same guy that said that we're in the last throes. I'm sure he forecast sun today," Obama said to laughter from supporters holding campaign signs over the heads to keep dry. "When Dick Cheney says it's a good thing, you know that you've probably got some big problems."

Such mockery could have come from the very lips of Osama Bin Laden himself...
B. Hussein Obama is a sniveling coward.
I still can't get over those ears. LOL
Pencil-necked geek.
The Brits unfortunately were given the southern area to protect. Bad luck for them since even though it is primarily Shiite, the Shiites still have plenty of internal rivalries that they haven't quite worked out.
The Brits leaving now is not so much a result of a stabilization like what has happened in the Kurdish area, but is basically them giving up on dealing with all of the internal Shiite strife.
It's hard to put a good spin on this.
Bush has finally decided to come clean and admit that mistakes were made in order to gain some credibility.
Now Cheney comes along and undermines these efforts by pulling the smokescreen back up and declaring once again that everything is OK and on track.
Obama may not be right about most things, but he is exactly right on Cheney.
The very thought of an obama-nation is, well...
Typical dem. Appeal to the ignorant masses who don't understand that the Brits mission is about done as there is no unrest in the south as there is in Baghdad.
uh...did Tony Blair share this info with Obama? if not, where is he getting his confirmation from - the MSM? No, because if he is correct, the MSM would be on top of it like white on rice!
I suppose in comparison to Hillary, is is charismatic, but really, he sort of looks pretty feeble when you stack him up against any of the Republicans, and I mean ANY of them!
Listen up, you skinny little twerp. Dick Cheney has forgotten more about defending this country than you'll ever know.
Run with the rumor. Pity the fact.
This guy is supposed to be handsome? Which side of the Islamic war is he on?
Insolent little geek.
Withdrawl at the END OF THE YEAR YOU INEXPERIENCED MORON!
Another Democrat invested in defeat.
Rush is right-they own defeat.
And the enemy is emboldened.
I cannot stand his whistling 's' sounds.
Where is his Gravitas?
