NDIANAPOLIS | Republican presidential hopeful John McCain has received the endorsement of Gov. Mitch Daniels.
"John McCain is a long-time friend. More importantly, he is a principled leader with a history of integrity, opposing excessive government spending and dealing honestly with the American people," Daniels said Thursday in a written statement.
Daniels, a Republican, told reporters last week that he has known the Arizona senator since McCain was a Navy captain. Before being elected governor in 2004, Daniels held several positions in Washington D.C., including federal budget director for President George W. Bush, and was a senior vice president at drug maker Eli Lilly and Co.
"Mitch is an impressive businessman and public servant who understands that common sense conservative principles and more effective government go hand-in-hand, McCain said in a statement. Having the support of Mitch Daniels is important, and I look forward to honoring our common values as I move ahead in this process.
The endorsement announcement was made by McCain's presidential exploratory committee.
Here I go - against my own declaration to not slam any of our candidates - but I did make ONE exception.
John McCain is freaking nuts.
Now I'm left to question Mitch Daniels.
Yeah but who will Charlie Daniels endorse? The CDB carries more clout.
This is a justified exception to your declaration.
Mccain can get the endorsement of George Washington risen from the dead, and I wouldn't support him.
LOL! When I first read the title I thought OMG Not Charlie Daniels! LOL!
John McLaim... no way.
True! If by any (godforbid) chance he is the nominee he gets my vote (I have to go out and buy clothespins for my nose in case).
John McCain is freaking nuts.
BINGO!
Mitch Daniels should stick to business, he is OUT of his realm.
yep
An endorsment from Daniels isn't worth much...
I won't vote for him as Pres either.
Pack it in, John. Rudy already snagged the coveted Charlie Dent endorsement. It's all over.
It is almost a 'universal' exception. I know I have made it myself. :)You got lots of company.
RINOs of a feather flock together.
Didn't this brilliant governor just sell of the toll roads to raise cash for his bankrupt state?
Given Daniels "popularity" in Indiana, this should help the other GOP hopefuls.
