So, this is more important than finding a Real Conservative candidate that can get this country back on track?

We are now allowing the media to dictate to us who the GOP candidate should be ?

Give me a break !

Why would the media want you to nominate Giuliani if he can beat Hillary?

We've lived with someone in the White House who's far from conservative for the past six years. Why poo-poo someone who can beat a communist?

A "real conservative" among the living breathing choices we have now isn't going to get the country on any kind of track because he's not going to win. It's easy to say "we need a conservative candidate who can win." I heartily agree. But saying that doesn't change the fact that candidates like Duncan Hunter and Newt Gingrich constitute the weakest lineup of conservative candidates in my lifetime. Don't get me wrong- they are good conservatives. But you win elections by persuading the 10% of swing voters and neither Hunter nor Gingrich will do that.

This is a tough time for any conservative to win a battleground state- Santorum was a GREAT conservative Senator and he got crushed by a poor candidate in a battleground state. That's the reality of the political situation now.

We've been handed a candidate in Rudy with extraordinary leadership ability in the WOT who can win. And he promises to appoint judges like Scalia if elected. That's a package I can support.

How can a so-called Real Conservative" put this country on track, after he's been clobbered by Hitelry, and been forced to retire and go grow tomatoes in Florida?

"We are now allowing the media to dictate to us who the GOP candidate should be ? "

Nope.
Republicans will select the candidate that can beat Hitelry and prevent this country from being sent into the dark ages of a Hitelry presidency.

This reminds me of the Democratic debate in 2004 where every candidate not named Howard Dean got asked. "How can you stay in the race and damage your party's chances?"

Surprisingly, Dennis Kookyinch had le mot juste in riposte. "I'm staying in to make you cover my inauguration in person."

Agreed. The "love" for Rudy extends to the Democrat side knowing he cannot win a national election without the conservative vote.

It is IMPERATIVE that we beat the Dem candidate in '08.

You aren't going to be able to find an 100% Conservative, acceptable to not only everyone here on FR, but appealing to the majority of the American populace, who has the ability to beat whichever person gets the Dem nod for '08 in the known GOP field and NO, such a person is NOT going to suddenly appear, out of nowhere, either. Hanging on to that "dream" is just going to cause you a lot of heartache and pain.

The MSM is NOT "picking" the GOP candidate and the polls, though early days, gives all of us a view into where ALL Americans are right now. If you'd prefer to ignore them, then do so; some of us really do want to see what they all say.

The president of the USA isn't a king, emperor, dictator, the Pope, or a "magical genie" who will grant YOU every wish and heart desire. What do you believe that a president CAN do, to "get this country back on the right track" and what EXACTLY is this "track" to you?

Sure looks like the media is planning for an anti-Bush Republican candidate, whether Republicans want it or not.

I'm just waiting for someone to come up with a Rudy / Hussein ticket ... that'd be the dem's strongest option. :)

Funny, I thought they were polling potential voters, not members of the media.

The Real Conservatives are in the polls, right there for anybody to pick. Apparently few do pick them.

Some have washed out, too. Frist and Allen, probably Condi too.

Mike Pence was really being talked up not long ago. But one slip--he actually wanted a compromise immigration bill, and "real conservatives" cooled totally on him.

There is simply not an endless supply of candidates, let alone "good" or "great" candidates.

Always remember FR is NOT reflective of the electorate, or even Republican primary voters.

Finally, "a Real Conservative candidate that can get this country back on track" has to first get nominated and then elected.

So while doing the "finding" don't overlook the "elected" aspect. The angry conservative is not in vogue.
