Sick of Mexicans Taking our Jobs
Nelliemae

Posted on 02/21/2007 5:53:58 PM PST by NellieMae

I am getting really sick of the Mexican Invasion costing so many jobs in the Southwest Virginia- East Tennessee area. My husband is a brickmason. He is the 5th generation mason in his family- our son is the 6th. Up until just a couple of years ago brickmasons had contractors ringing their phones off of the wall wanting them to do work for them. My husband had to turn down dozens of callers because he couldn't do it all. Things have sure changed . Now, a lot of contractors in this area have gotten dollar signs in their eyes and all that they can see are cheap Mexican workers. My husband has actually had a contractor (real builders that know how to actually build a house are really scarce around here anymore) pull Mexicans on the job that he was working on because he was in such a hurry to get it finished that he couldn't wait the 2 weeks that it would have taken to do the whole job. They will pull in a huge crew and wipe the job out real quick. They waste a lot of brick though (they get paid by the 1000 brick). My husband is a very good, fast mason. His speed and quality is not the issue here. Most of these workers cannot even speak English. It is really aggravating to have lived in a place your entire life and have your livlihood seriously threatened by people that are not supposed to be here in the first place. How do we get rid of this problem? Also, on another related note: It was announced today that there are hundreds of jobs being cut in ANOTHER local factory, Bristol Compressors. I was told several months ago that a construction site in Mexico was marked with a sign that read:" Future site of Bristol Compressors" Is this a coincidence or is there another company by the name of Bristol Compressors?

Yes, everyone. Engage in criminal enterprise. Hire illegal aliens. Use stolen goods... whatever it takes to compete. Morality and the law have nothing to do with it.

No whining when criminals destroy the country!!!

Do you know the definition of 'sociopath'?

The internet had nothing to do with the obsolescence of stripping. Apple Computer and Scitex had everything to do with that. More recently, computer to plate removed another step in the process. As a buyer of catalog-quality four color process printing, I really liked that change, due to greater speed, lower cost and FM (frequency modulated) screening ... no more moiré patterns, which was a major problem for me, since I do a lot of apparel work.

Gee, your new gig doesn't involve hiring illegal aliens does it? Such moral behavior....

Your neighbor doesn't have home insurance?

That's not very smart.

You must be a pretty lousy software engineer. I'm still in the business and I'm making twice what I was 5 years ago.

Actually I write software for myself now to help me allocate capital.

I made much more than twice what I made 5 years ago.

If you'd like a job... please post your resume and I'll consider it.

I don't understand why qualified, bonded, construction tradesmen don't stand up to builders and contractors who hire illegals.

Why don't you all form an alliance like the california raisins or Happy cows, and produce announcements that say "Our houses are built by hardworking, honest, americans just like you. Don't buy your next house from a builder who uses illegal immigrants."

If a bunch of you did that, I bet you would see a great interest in your services. Form organizations and work together, you are outnumbered when you stand alone, but when you ally with others you can force change.

I vow that I will NOT do business with a contractor who uses illegals, and I'll write that into the contract!

No, thank you. I don't soil myself by working with those of low character. Money is the most important thing in life, but sociopaths don't understand that.

the boarder would be closed tomorrow

Boarders in boarding houses are almost always open near the border.

Could you please do all of us a favor and let us know who it is you support for president in 2008? I really want to make sure I cast my vote correctly and I'd hate to waste it on someone like, say, Rudy who looks at things the way you do. Voting is very much a right in this here republic, you will find it in the constitution. The cool thing is that I get to vote and these illegal aliens don't, at least for now. So, please, let us know.

That should be: Mone IS NOT the most important thing in life... but clearly it is for some.

In most places it's illegal for them to be in the country but it's not illegal for them to work

You have no idea what you talking about. If they are in the country illegally, then they can't legally work in any job.

Rudy's far to conservative for this guy. I have to wonder why he's even on this forum.

Devil's advocate here:

Tell this woman how her husband, who has done the same thing for years, is now supposed to support his family?

Why not cut to the chase and reinstitute slavery?

The answer of course is these people WANT to work.

Slaves of course are forced to work.

Compete or have your lunch eaten! It's your call!

If this problem just arrived in east TN-southwest VA, then consider yourself somewhat lucky. We had a house built in Orange, TX in 1994 and the drywall and brickmasons were all Mexican then. Why? Cheaper. But the quality was there and they worked hard. I had no control because it was a turnkey speculative built house. I feel for you, but the only way to reach you is to seal the border with Mexico. It will only happen when the American people demand it by refusing to reelect congressmen and senators that will not act on this problem. If we don't our American dream will be destoyed due to apathy.

No, I wouldn't take that $7.00/hr work now, I don't have to. However, if I needed it...I'd stand my lonely white @ss out there again in a heartbeat, $$ under the table, to feed my family. Wouldn't be the first humble pie I've eaten. ================ who can feed a family here on $7/hr? Your wife and kids would really like living with those 10 guys.
