Oslo - A German naval minesweeper ran aground off the Norwegian coast in the early hours of Wednesday, reported rescue services authorities in the city of Stavanger on Norway's south- western coast.
According to the report, none of the vessel's 42 sailors were in danger at any time.
The ship was participating in naval exercises when the accident occurred owing to a 'navigational error,' the Norwegian authorities said.
The ship was due to be freed during high tide.
Say Schadenfreude. :-)
Das boot es kapute!.....
Kinda funny... the ship is capable of detecting mines, but couldn't see the bottom coming up at it?
It seems to me that the last time the German Navy invaded Norway they were a little more proficient and successful.
That pic reminds me of the SS Minnow stranded on Gilligan's Island.
The German navy didn't do much better when they attacked Norway in 1940.
Don´t think so. They say it´s going to be freed during high tide. If it were broken, they wouldn´t do that.
Big Smile.
Das boot Kapitän career es kaput!.....
Captain Joseph Hazelwood?
He was trying to jump his boat the same way James bond did in "Live and Let Die". Bond made it. This boat's Kapitan didn't.
I related news there is a newly announced job opening in the German navy.
It does look like there is some damage to the bow of the ship. Even at high tide it looks like he was moving to get that far up on the reef. There's just something about the German Navy that makes them have a hard time with their boats.
There's running aground, then there's really running aground ... this one is the latter. Not like hitting a mud bank in a channel or running up on a sand bar ... this vessel is up on a rock shoal. The German Navy will certainly be talking to the captain of this minesweeper.
Maybe they were looking for *land* mines? :)
LOL. Good one.
And if I was the Captain, I´d buy a nice frame and put this picture of my failure in. It surely would be an eyecatcher for visitors.
Not really. NAZI naval losses were substantial when they attempted to run Norwegian shore batteries and land-based torpedo launchers. The Kriegsmarine was so roughly handled, they had to go to plan "B."
Maybe these German chaps should stick to U-Boats.
He was channeling his inner panzer commander.
HOGAN!!
