Yes, it was a bad shoot and very much complicated that they attempted to cover-up.
Ironically, it is judicial actions such as this that separates the U.S. Justice System for the system they have in Mexico.
Everyone, in the US must abide by the rule of law but on Mexico the police are immune from that rule.

Initially I was on their side, but after hearing the Prosecutor on Larry Elder and reading up on the case I have changed. I hate to see a drug dealer go free, but these two were wrong. This coming from a police officer with eight years experience.

I have been surprised by the number of Freepers that acknowledge that it was a bad shooting and that he BP Agents covered up the shooting while also saying that it is okay when LEO's break the law.
It seems many want a Police State.

Agreed. However, I think a fair amount of bad stuff slides by. These guys were amatuers at covering their tracts...mostly because everything was so lax at this station no one felt the need to do so.

FWIW, this guy wasn't a drug dealer per se. He was some poor uneducated slob they got to drive the van so the real drug dealers don't get caught.
I'm not excusing him but we could put the mules behind bars until the cows come home and it would have no effect.

Sometimes the knee jerk reaction to defend police is to a fault.

"And for all you goofs out there with your conspiracy theories about Homeland Security and Bush, knock it off...you look like Eric Van Daniken."
In the end, the truth usually presents itself. I think you'll find the majority to believe your efforts to defend your version of the truth in vain, as your agenda is apparent.

Why is he going free? Police should be held to a higher standard and if they break the law they should pay. Being aggressive in chasing illegals is not something they should pay for.
Assuming it went down as reported it points out huge systemic problems with the Border patrol.

"Why is he going free?"
Because they had no way to get him. They didn't know who he, no ID and was and he was in Mexico...consequently no case. If Ramos and Compean had chased him down and captured him the guy would be in San Quentin right now.

Reports of dirty border agents have been rumoured around here in Texas all my life.
Even if he had only slammed the shotgun into his head, like he tried to do, he deserved to be fired and charged with assault, minimum.
However it deeply desturbs me to read about the tactics used by the Justice Department and the prosecutor. JMO
To: DainBramage; Bob J
What did the Justice Department and the prosecutor do that was so egregious?
To: Bob J
I'm more concerned about the prosecution.
I'm not sure how much you can trust what's in that transcript.

It's about time cooler heads prevailed. I'm tired of hearing idiot politicians bloviate about impeaching Bush over this (and some Freepers haven't been much better).
