Well, let's compare a few quotes here...
First:
...but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles...Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our "sporting firearms."
- Jim Zumbo
Second:
"I have again introduced legislation to permanently ban assault weapons. These weapons have no practical use. They are not used by hunters for sport or by individuals for self-defense. They are intended to kill as many individuals as possible in a short amount of time and have no place on our streets."
- Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-NY
Jim Zumbos' comments look like they were ghost-written by Carolyn McCarthy.
Tolerance? Not from me.
FYI: H.R. 1022: To reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes
I guess we should allow people to have tanks in their backyard as well. There is no reason for any hunter to have a war weapon. With the terrorism that we have to deal with today the risk of allowing such weapons is too great.
Then how do we know such people exist in any good number?
I'm waiting to see what cabela's does in response to this.
I'm not buying zumbo's "apology". It was only after he realized his meal tickets might dry up that he offered his half hearted explanation.
Perhaps he should just retire, because I can't see myself supporting any company that does supports someone who echoes anti-gun rhetoric.
Hunting what?
Hey , I should be able to hunt whatever I want, and if it takes a semi auto with a large capacity mag, its none of HIS bidness.
Can we get a rousing AMEN? A-M-E-N, Brudder!!! I'm sick and tired of having the folks I volunteer to help get elected turn around and STAB me in the back and tell me it's for the good of the nation. IOW, Don't PI$$ down my back and tell me it's rainin'! That goes double for "journalists" who claim to support the Second Amendment. Zumbo shot himself in the foot on full auto. He deserves to feel our pain for quite awhile.
The idiot Zumba (and others, too, apparently) embrace the misapprehension that the Second Amendment is either about hunting or involves a privilege granted by the government. The Second Amendment is NOT about hunting. The Second Amendment idoes NOT involve a privilege granted by government. The Second Amendment is a critical aspect of the American system of checks and balances which seeks to curb the historically established and long-proven tendency of those in government to arrogate powers to themelves which are not theirs. The Second Amendment explicitly preserves a God-given right, for the preservation of which "governments are created on earth, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."
It would seem that all too many have forgotten what America stands for - Zumba among them.
Bang!
Rhino Rudy Giuliani agrees with Zumbo.
Go figure.
i use an AR on 'chucks and coyotes.
coyotes around here are starting to band up and attack people, so yes, i'll feel alot more comfortable knowing i have quicker follow-up shots, and a larger capacity than my 700.
I am not a big gun person. I don't even hunt. I just prefer playing the bass. I do own an SKS and a thousand rounds. It is my "think globally but act locally" action. It is the second amendment in action in my life.
With that preface, whenever I read or hear a person lumping "legitimate" gun ownership with hunting, I consider them to be one of the gun grabbers.
Hunting is a side issue. Gun ownership is protected in the constitution not so that we can be assured of venison. It is protected so that we can use firearms to protect ourselves from humans - including our own government.
That's right Zdumbo was just acting on behalf of his good buddies in the grabber community.
I saw this the other day and let Zumbo know what I thought after reading his non-apology on his blog. In essence; the 2nd Amendment isn't about hunting. Hopefully the overwhelming response he got will let the industry know just how many people feel the same way. Defending the 2nd Amendment on the basis of hunting is a non-starter.
As the dems take control we see who has the courage to truly support the 2nd Amendment. Stay strong!
My employer says if I don't apologize I am going to lose my job. I was stupid to say what I said (or wrote). I want to keep my job. I am willing to change my thinking on this issue one hundred and eighty degrees just to keep my job. I am willing to flush my principles right down the sewer for the sake of this paycheck, never mentioning what I believe on this subject again. Will that suffice?

Mossy Oak Responds to Zumbo Blog
Mossy Oak strongly advocates the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights, which gives us the right to keep and bear arms regardless of type. The Second Amendment is vital to the outdoors lifestyle we all appreciate and enjoy here at Mossy Oak and across the entire outdoor industry.
It is unfortunate that a long-time hunter and outdoor writer took a personal position that was unsupportive of the Second Amendment which does not differentiate between firearm types. said Butch English, Executive VP of Sales and Marketing for Mossy Oak. As a result of comments made by Mr. Jim Zumbo in recent postings on his blog site, Haas Outdoors, Inc. the home of Mossy Oak Brand Camo has ended all sponsorship ties with Mr. Zumbo effective immediately. While we strongly disagree with Mr. Zumbos opinion, we respect his constitutional, guaranteed right to speak freely.
As shooters and hunters, we should all help educate and promote responsible firearm information and safety. It is important for the outdoor industry to focus our attention to educate those opposed to any type of anti-hunting or anti-Second Amendment movement.

The dominoes continue to fall.
Maybe I'll be a big enough man to defend his right to hunt while I'm defending my right to defend myself and others with firearms.
Maybe he'd get a taste of his own medicine if hole punchers were as condescending to him as he is to non hunting shooters.
