The Republicans, and even some socially conservative and evangelical leaders, are beginning to adjust to the possibility of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani as the GOP nominee for president. But not all.
The Southern Baptist's Richard Land, for instance, predicts massive defections from Rudy in the event of a Rudy Giuliani vs. Hillary Clinton race. Hugh Hewitt, evangelical talk-meister in the syndicated stream of radio shows doubts this; "... If Rudy is persuasive on the judges he will nominate, he wouldn't have a problem with the social conservatives in the general election." So tell us you'll nominate the likes of Scalia, Roberts, and Alito to the Supreme Court, and we will line up behind you no matter your substantial views that run counter to the Judeo-Christian ethic, he and his handlers are undoubtedly thinking.
Well, I won't.
And I bet I speak for hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions when I say that I cannot in good conscience vote for a man with significant moral problems in his personal life, a radically wrong view of abortion (against it personally, but for women making their own pro-abortion choice), and oh-so-very Times Square and Hollywood on the issues of homosexual rights and guns (for and against, respectively).
Can't vote for him, even if his opponent is Hillary Rodham Clinton? No, I cannot.
Aw, c'mon, Team Republican says, nobody who purports to be socially conservative, evangelical, or who voted twice for Ronald Reagan will be able to muster a vote for Hillary over Rudy.
Probably right. But voting for her isn't the only option. When the electorate isn't excited about the candidates, they are capable of staying home -- particularly those who don't much care to think political thoughts 24/7 and are not enthused about the choices. There are others of us who will either leave the presidential portion of the ballot unmarked or decide for the first time in our lives to vote, say, the Constitution Party.
Next argument -- Then you'll just be putting Hillary into office. Next rebuttal -- No, rather, my precious vote won't be responsible for putting into office a man who thinks we will vote for him because he is best suited and capably prepared to keep America safe but can't guard his own soul from moral perdition.
But, in all of this, there is something else to think about. The President of the United States guides his own political party and its platform. And the party of President Rudy Giuliani will soon become the party of the same kind of governing mushiness that has absorbed the Democrats. Give the party to Rudy and the moral code and political sensibilities of Reagan are lost, perhaps for good. Better to lose an election and reload ideologically than try to cheer on and take cues from a man with a worldview radically divergent from your own.
May the primaries be kind to the GOP; and kindness means Giuliani loses.

I doubt it is dumb. Hunter, on the miniscle possibility that he wins the nomination, will be far more pragmatic than his ideological followers. Hunter will know that he already trails the Democrat nominee and a carbon copy of himself as the VP would only widen, not narrow, his electoral deficient.
If Duncan only plays to the conservative wing of the Republican party he will suffer a Goldwater-like defeat.
As President, Hitlery will have power to withdraw from Iraq and from the war on Islaminazism. Republicans will have little power to stop her and her fellow DemonRats who control the House and Senate. Hitlery will promote abortion, not try to stop it. She will advocate for stricter gun control. No Republican will do those things, not even Giuliani. If Giuliani is POS, he will have to work with national Republicans. He will have to compromise, just as he did as Mayor of NYC, when he compromised with Liberals in order to get his way on his agenda (law and order issues).
I believe that was a direct quote of your original comment to me that started this waste of my time, rtard. I guess you didn't recognize it because of your obviously short attention span.
I'll again make it clear that I'm not a Rudybot. I don't actually support the guy. It's just a political observation. I've spoken to my own family (who is Italian) and also heard from MANY other freepers this same exact thing.

It's worth noting that social conservatives probably constituted a very small part of Perot's support. On so-called "social issues" he was as liberal as anyone the Democrats would have put up in 1992, so his support most likely came from disaffected "fiscal conservatives."

I often get a chance to listen to Mark Levin on the way home from work. He has spent part of the last few shows discussing the pros and cons of all the candidates.. Like him, I have reservations about some and hope some can rise to the occasion. I'm not for or against any of the candidates but one will eventually be the republican nominee and will need our full support in order to defeat the libs.
Thank God....some sane people.

That's not really what the polls currently show. Most folks who are generally liberal are also AGAINST the war. I doubt that they'll vote for Mr. Giuliani, generally.
I look at both sides, too. I already said that it's certainly possible that Mr. Giuliani could win in November 2008.
I merely said that the best evidence suggests that that won't happen. It appears more likely that Mr. Giuliani would lose, and to a moderate Dem, lose badly.

Does anybody have any verifiable data on his appointments as mayor to give us an idea if his words match his deeds?

....fine....you are entitled...I'd suggest though that you go to real clear politics......at realclearpolitics.com which has almost all polls on just about everything...they are a great source of info, most posts are pro conservative yet they have both sides....but you'll see the polls have Rudy beating Hillary and others by a wider margin than anyone....have a great day......
