I heard that Al Gore people are saying that he buys Carbon offsets to cover his carbon footprint caused by his 4 homes, private jet travel and other travel. This raises a question: Are the purchase of carbon offsets tax deductible? To what extent? Is he using the taxpayers to fund his carbon footprint reduction or is he doing this on his own?
Uhhh.....what's a carbon offset?
Gore has held these apocalyptic views about the environment for some time. So why, then, didn't Gore dump his family's large stock holdings in Occidental (Oxy) Petroleum? As executor of his family's trust, over the years Gore has controlled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oxy stock. Oxy has been mired in controversy over oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas.
Living carbon-neutral apparently doesn't mean living oil-stock free. Nor does it necessarily mean giving up a mining royalty either.
Humanity might be "sitting on a ticking time bomb," but Gore's home in Carthage is sitting on a zinc mine. Gore receives $20,000 a year in royalties from Pasminco Zinc, which operates a zinc concession on his property. Tennessee has cited the company for adding large quantities of barium, iron and zinc to the nearby Caney Fork River.
The issue here is not simply Gore's hypocrisy; it's a question of credibility. If he genuinely believes the apocalyptic vision he has put forth and calls for radical changes in the way other people live, why hasn't he made any radical change in his life? Giving up the zinc mine or one of his homes is not asking much, given that he wants the rest of us to radically change our lives.
Don`t know about ALGORES carbon footprint but, it`s a proven fact that right after he speaks, the Rose Bushes look better.
Regardless, AlGore should LBE (lead by example) instead of "buying" a smaller carbon footprint for himself.
Another "man of the people" clueless of how the people actually live.
Buying carbon offsets. Thats great slight off hand for bean counters, but in the real world he's an absolute A$.....uhhh...hypocrite, yeah, hypocrite thats the word.
I could care less about my "carbon footprint".....because of Al Gore, I drive 20 minutes more everyday and buy beans so's I can....
What did they do to offset the record albums burned by the PMRC?
Weren't there a couple of issues concerning the Clinton Administration and Occidental Petroleum near the end of Clinton's second term? I seem to recall something about the wells in California related to the strategic reserve begin ceded to Oxy and something about protecting an Oxy pipeline in Columbia, but I'm not sure of the details. Can anyone fill in the blanks?
Al Gore : Environmentalist And Zinc Miner
Not sure of the details of your question, but al and his family have been playing both sides of this oil business.
Al's Dad got lots of oil stock as payment for politically helping big oil...
I will pay attention to the first Global Warming conference where the attendees arrive on bicycles. the Swiss confab, to say nothing of IPCC, involve well heeled honchos jetting in from all over the globe and leaving a "carbon footprint" exceeding that of most third world countries. Or hey, here's an idea, now that Algore has invented the internet, they could video-conference!
Details, please.
It's pseudo-science. Every engineering student knows that accumulation is input-output. NONE of these silly calculators ask anything about output. I have SEVEN fully grown Douglas Fir trees in my back yard.
This is just as thought out as man-made global warming. Three years of ocean cooling, offsetting the last fifty years of increase by 20%. It's not in the model for warming, it's unpredictable.
The man-made global warming model is crap science.
DK
So Algore is sending money to the ChiComs?
Gosh, I wonder what the "carbon footprint" of a few jihadists nukes going off in the USA would be?
Since Gore and his ilk are so eager to take our eye of the terrorist ball, I think they should think about such things.
"The man-made global warming model is crap science."
No truer words have ever been spoken. I figure they are dumb enough to believe it, I'm going to be smart enough to profit from it.
P.T. Barnum mentioned one born every minute and he cashed in on it. All I need to do is partner with a local greenhouse and keep part of the profit as a middle man. They were going to charge me about $104 dollars to plant 44 trees, probably tiny trees that will not reach carbon footprint eating capacity for a number of decades. So that figures about $2.36 or so per tree. And considering that they figure my 10.05 tons of CO2 equals 44 trees, that's about 4.38 trees per ton. I'm sure there is a nice profit in there somewhere. There are schools that are trying to figure the carbon footprint of the schools and/or the kids and their parents. I could even give a group discount.
When it is not so late in the evening/early in the morning, I'm going to sit down and figure out how much can be made taking money from those with more money than brain cells.
the elephant in the room is the growing antarctica ice caps, icicles on california citrus fruit, eleven feet of snow in buffalo
global fraud from the idiots that can't predict the weather two weeks hence
