UN urged to take action on asteroids

Scientists and former astronauts this weekend called upon the United Nations to protect Earth from cataclysmic asteroid strikes.

Delegates at an American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in San Francisco this weekend learned an asteroid strike is an absolute certainty unless the international community rallies to prevent it.

"The likelihood of a strike is 100%," said Russell Schweickart, a former astronaut who went into orbit in 1969 as a member of the Apollo 9 crew. "The question is whether it will happen within my lifetime or your lifetime."

Does this mean that global warming is now over? Poor ALGORE, he was that close to total fame and recognition. Tomorrow he will be another "what's his name?'

Good heavens. The UN cannot protect women and girls in Africa from UN WORKERS! How in the name of all that is holy can they protect the world from asteroids????

So if I read the headline correctly, we are shipping the UN off to an asteroid. Isn't that appropriate.

If an asteroid hits, the earth will have global freezing not global warming. Besides, the UN can't find its butt from a whole in the ground.

Between this and global warming we are surely doomed!
