Thanks; I never got censored before like this on FR so this is a first.
I grew up during the renaissance period of the NBA - Kareem & Magic vs Bird & McHale. Michael Jordan just picked up what Dr. J started. I rarely missed a playoff game, if the NBA was on, I was in front of the TV.
Somewhere along the line....maybe 1990?... there was a shift to this 'thug culture'. Not sure if I just grew up, or grew away from the sport, but I can't remember the last time I even watched a part of a game.
I would say that change is reflected among my friends, too. In school, the NBA was the name of the game. In college - the people were different, but the sport's popularity was dropping off. Now, in the workplace, the people are different as well, and NBA basketball is rarely, if ever mentioned around the water cooler.

Jay Leno was over at the MGM Grand this weekend performing. Can't wait to hear his account.
If you follow the guidelines, it is unlikely your posts will be deleted.

Yes, but the comment was that this happens at "most" major events. I don't believe it.
A Shriners Convention is a major event. A NAASCAR race is a major event. Fleet Week is a major event. Fashion Week is a major event.
My apology to you BenLurkin for misdirecting my message:
So Mr. Moderator, my #10 post got censored because I quoted a Geto Boys line?
I love the Geto Boys; they are my inspiration. You injected your morality into my post which was a direct quote from GB?
Is it now politically incorrect for somebody to say the "n" word when it's directly quoted from a gangsta rap group's lyrics?
Are you going to censor this too? And I have to refer to this again in another post?
How deep does it go, dude? Shame on you. I hope that you aren't succumbing to the P.C. that this forum is supposed to free of.
Well, at least they don't tolerate anyone talking trash about them homersexurals...;'}
I was stuck in the middle of it at Lenox Square Mall on that Friday working a telethon for a local radio station.
Within 3 hours the mall was over run with vistiors to the city. Later in the weekend they had to close the mall at least twice due to over crowding. Reminded me of Freaknik. It was complete gridlock and I wssn't able to leave the mall until around 10:00 p.m.
The Atlanta Police couldn't get there because of all the gridlock. It was chaos.
well i can give you one example: the republican national convention in manhattan a few years ago. arrests spiked during those few days. similar array of charges, too. you think basketball fans have the market cornered on bad behavior?
Losers buy the keg, occasional fistfight? Never heard of a shooting or stabbing at one.
Thanks for pointing out the guidelines; never saw them before.
So the closest I can guess is that if I directly quote Geto Boys or Public Enemy and if they say something in their lyrics that disparage blacks, then my post can be removed.
How 1984'ish. Kafka is laughing.
The arrest rate almost doubled.
Logically the arrest rates wouldn't double for most major events.
All these posts and no mention of Christina Aguilera....much better than I was expecting!!
If you post racist material or materials promoting violence, threats or illegal acts you should expect the post to be deleted. Just because you are quoting a rap group (even one who had to switch distributors because of controversy over the graphic portrayal of rape, necrophilia, and murder) is not going to justify the comments.
Yes and yes (well, it's racist according to blacks and the media).
It wasn't all that long ago that the Pacers were admirable in their conduct on and off the court.
Vegas = Mogadishu West (for at least one weekend, anyway)
i dont remember stories like this for the baseball or hockey all-star games. so lets be realistic and call it what it is: thug wanna-be's and hangers-on flexing their muscles. and yes, most of them are black. gasp! there, i said it.
