On Valentine's Day Travis was badly wounded.
This is an email from a Major to his parents.
Today I talked to our embedded report from the Stars and Stripes, Steve Maraz. He was with Travis and his platoon when they were attacked and he helped the Corpsman treat Travis. He said that Travis was awake during the entire treatment and evacuation and as he was being carried to the MEDEVAC landing zone he told his squad leader "Stay Motivated!" and pumped his fist in the air to inspire the Marines, which it did.
The spirit is strong than the body. Clearly Travis is a strong young man and possesses the strength and will to recover from this.
Finally, although I try to remain positive in all of our phone calls I do want to make sure that you prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for the moment you see Travis. It will be difficult to be sure as the damage was extensive. However Travis didn't get his strength of character and spirit from the Marine Corps, he got it from you and your family.
My prayers are with you and Travis. Will call again tomorrow when we find out more.

prayers going up.
Please keep me, and Just A Nobody, informed as to where they send Travis. If he is sent to Walter Reed JAN can be there to help, and I will call a friend with the Wounded Warrior Project inside WR and alert him Travis will be there.
The WWP, www.woundedwarriorproject.org can be a great help to Travis long into his recovery. The WWP is staffed with severly wounded Iraq/Afghanistan vets like Travis and they create a special bond that is ongoing, throughout the recovery process, and long after he goes home. The WWP also can help the family of Travis in many ways.
JAN I am sending you freepmail today. My husband has been very ill, in the hopsital twice since I talked with you and I have been out of touch.

Special prayers today for Travis and his family and for all who serve our country.
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard And hushed their raging at Thy word, Who walked'st on the foaming deep, and calm amidst its rage didst sleep; Oh hear us when we cry to Thee For those in peril on the sea!
Eternal Father, grant, we pray To all Marines, both night and day, The courage, honor, strength, and skill Their land to serve, thy law fulfill; Be thou the shield forevermore From every peril to the Corps.
Prayers sent for this brave young man and his family.
Dear Lord, we pray that you will hold Travis and his family in your hands and give them the strength for the battle that lies ahead. Please be with the doctors and nurses as they use the skills which You gave them to save this brave young Marine who has stood in harm's way to keep us all safe. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Travis.
And please bless all our troops who have sacrificed so much and continue to report for duty every day. Please keep them all safe. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen
May God Bless all our Armed Forces and their loved ones.
