I've checked and seen nothing posted about the premier pilot of the 1/2 Hour News Hour on this forum.
I want more of this show. I laughed throughout.
The satire was crisp, delivery was very good.
The best thing about parodies and satires which grab at one's funny bone is that they are true and factual. The jabs delivered last night were true and factual. And Real.
I and my family enjoyed the 1/2 Hour News very much, and wish it were more than 1/2 hour long -- and covering the range of "news du jour".

The Ed Begley segments were idiotic. And the "six degrees of global warming" wore thin quickly. Surnow needs to be more selective in his writing and editing. This show was rushed too quickly to air.
Same here. Having a laff track after line, funny or not, was irritating and a turnoff.
So, I did not read through the preview "1/2 Hour News Hour" thread. I came at the show with fresh eyes, having no preconceptions.
Let me also add, I had cable turned in 1993. Had it turned on, first time since, about a month or so ago.
Let me suffice by saying I think the "1/2 hour News Hour" is cutting edge and the wave of the future.
It's been 14 years, for me.
And in the past month or so, what I have seen is that the liberals have grown to offering NOTHING new. It's the same old tired, disgusting, negative tripe, with slightly edgier pre-marketing materials on the same old themes. How boring. Why bother doing couch-potato time for material and shows which really haven't kept up with the times, and are entirely too predictable. Why watch? Self-esteem issues? "See "they agree with me" and "I'm so smart I could tell ya exactly what they were going to say or angle they would take". Piffle.
I'm with you fellow Grandma -- I liked the show, too. :)

My recommendation: fire up the TiVo, because THHNH is destined to be an enduring classic. Kudos to you, Roger Ailes and Joel Surnow, for letting the comsymp comedy world know that when it comes to laffs, nobody can top us conservatives!
The laugh track was tinny, sounded like an early transistor radio.

The Ed Begley segments were an outright Hoot to those like me who've had to endure endless years of the "bike ride to fight hunger" "walkathons for peace" "Cindy Sheehan and her magic carpet ride" reportages, Martin Sheen and his obnoxious "hunger strikes" -- blow by blows covered 24-7 as "breaking news" in the MSM.
Yes, I was holding my sides laughing when his vehicle couldn't make it up the hills, not to mention endure a highway. I've seen more "green" inventions touted as the "saviors of mankind" in 40 years, which perfectly resonated with the spoofs on Ed Begley.
At a particular "harmonic convergence" type of event a few years back, one of the environmentalist hippies nearly killed another attendee with a shovel, for driving too fast at the event's location.
And you didn't think the Ed Begley spoofs were funny?

I thought the first half of the show was flawless and hilarious. I thought the 1st Begley thing was funny, but it got old and tired fast, as did the global warming thing. The laugh track was a huge distraction. Hopefully they will get better. I was shocked and delighted to see the "SHIITE HAPPENS" T-shirt. I don't think the Saudi Prince who owns 15% of NewsCorp will be too happy about it, but then again he is a Sunni.

I've been dying to know what DU thought about the show so I went over there and guess what? They don't think it was funny at all. They even mentioned FR and had a link to click over here to see what we were saying about it. Too funny. Check it out. LOL

I bet they had a lot of sympathy for Ed Begley being spoofed. And how dare anyone tell the truth about Che Guevera when Che only had "good intentions" in mind when he mass murdered all those "humans". Besides, it was so long ago, (think the DUers), they are probably saying it is evil to speak evil of the dead. Che is dead. Very dead.
At DU, did any of them tell about calling that 1-800 phone number to order "BO Magazine"?
The Ed Begley spoof was hysterical. Loved the part where his electric car couldn't make it up the tiny hill. Very clever and totally non-PC.

Right on. The laugh track was terrible--and not needed at least as much as they used it!!
The YouTube ignorati certainly don't think it was funny. All the more reason to applaud.
I'll definitely watch next week.
