Most Republicans don't support someone with liberal views on abortion gay marriage like Giuliani. And the polls also showed that a disturbing amount of Republicans don't even know of Giuliani's views on abortion and gay marriage. We've got a lot of work to do to educate them.

How many Republicans will not vote for Giuliani because he is opposed to gay marriage? 2? 3?

What have "pro-life" politicians done to criminalize abortion?

Considering Ronald Reagan appointed 2 pro-Roe justices, doesn't seem to hold much water.

Rudy put an end to John Gotti's reign of terror and helped crush La Cosa Nostra. He took a city on the brink of bankruptsy and anarchy and made it a good place to live. And when his friends, neighbors, and constituants were attacked, he risked his own life on their behalf.

Why do you insist on denying this or dismissing it as insignificant?

As was the case during the Cali recall election, the only defense that will be offered for the bot approved candidate will be electability and the fearful prospect of a Hitlerly nomination.

Rudy's got my vote. It's time for an effective executive who can get positive things done for the next eight years.

I hardly had time to read the article. I was looking out the windows to see if there were any menacing Squeegee Men or sinister Public Urinators lurking around my house. I didn't find any so I guess I won't have to support Sir Rudy for president.
"Here are the numbers that have some relevance to Mitt Romney:

Are you more who are more or less likely to support a candidate who is a Mormon? Republicans only: More likely 8 percent (a lot more likely 4 percent, somewhat more likely 4 percent). Less likely 30 percent (a lot less likely 19 percent, somewhat less likely 11 percent). Not a major factor 59 percent.

Are you more who are more or less likely to support a candidate who has changed his or her position on the issue of abortion? Republicans only: More likely 16 percent (a lot more likely 6 percent, somewhat more likely 10 percent). Less likely 28 percent (a lot less likely 16 percent, somewhat less likely 12 percent). Not a major factor 39 percent.
I thought it interesting that Romney's known negatives were lower than what Giuliani's are at present. There is little doubt that base voters will find out about Giuliani and some of that support will slip noticeably. On the second question above, I thought it inconclusive. Giuliani hasn't changed his position at all. And as for Romney, I think GOP base voters give more credit for flipping to pro-life than flipping to pro-choice. So that second question was dumb.

I believe McCain will get the nomination at this point. Eventhough many don't like him, he at least has some conservative views. I would put Romney at a close second, and he himself may even win.

I don't yet have strong feelings one way or another regarding the media's designated "front runners", before going in we all know Rudy has a clear liberal record, and McCain is widely disliked by the republican base. Romney is a bit of a clean slate, which will make him easily defined by his opponents, but if he has a good campaign he can easily overcome such things with a good solid message.

What I think doesn't matter anyway, I'm not even a republican, I just tend to vote for them in general elections.

Why all the Rudy smearing on this site? The only social issues a Republican President (and for that matter Congress) should be concerned with are Federal judge appointments and Rudy has alreay stated he will appoint justices in the Roberts mold.

Social issues should be left to the states- despite what the wacko right and left want otherwise.

Don't forget: Rudy singlehandedly ran into the WTC and personally saved more people than all the NYPD and NYFD combined, then turned around and SAVED ALL OF US! Yessirree!

The personal stuff is just as damaging. It makes a difference that enough conservatives value somebody who treats their wife as though they love them; Rudy, Newt and to some extent John blow their chances here.

Rudy Giuliani is pro-choice the way Ronald Reagan was. He has promised to appoint Supreme Court justices like Roberts, Alito and Scalia. A CNN article tries to make it sound like he would also appoint Ginsberg, but he was really defending the selection of Roberts by saying that a President should have nominees passed.

Unless Tancredo gets the nod (which isn't likely), I might be sitting this one out.

Trying to read too much into any 2008 poll at this point

..many have pointed this out recently

It's way too early for a coronation in the Kingdom of Rudy...

Now the 2nd amendment question?

We need a poll on FR with that being the question.

Month after month .....week after week...

We keep hearing the same whistling by the graveyard mantra....

"Once the voters...REALLY...REALLY TRULY ...REALLY...get to know Rudy his poll numbers will drop"

But as time goes on and people get to know him ...his numbers go higher!

Whatever your doing Spiff it doesn't seem to be working.

I genuinely appreciate Giuliani's leadership in terms of his history of crime-busting and the 9/11 aftermath. I don't want to take that away from him.

And, I don't consider myself a one-issue voter. But, good grief, with just about everything I really, really care about... borders, 2nd-Amendment, civil unions, abortion, and such, it seems that Rudy is on the opposite side. Then, were he to receive the nomination, there'll undoubtedly be, along the way to the election, a steady drumbeat of stomach-churning stories about adultery and mistresses and such.

I just can't swallow all that. It's just way too much. And, I'm a lifelong Republican who has always voted for the "R" candidate. But, I'll just have to consider some 3rd-party option, if Rudy is the nominee.
