My wife is Catholic, I am not, but we both attend services at a local Catholic Church.
Today the priest used the passage from Luke 6:27 to 38 (part of the Sermon on the Mount) as the basis for a pro-amnesty talk.
Not once did he say any of the words "illegal" "identity theft" "smugglers" "criminal" or any of the other words you might use to describe someone who illegally enters the country and performs illegal acts while there.
He made reference to the Bishop's position on this as well.
My wife, a legal immigrant who went through the burdensome and expensive process of coming to the USA *LEGALLY*, was so angry that she did not go to the front to partake of the Eucharist, feeling that if she had a problem with the priest she should not participate.
I am very curious, and ask other Catholics: Did your priest deliver a pro-amnesty talk today?
The long gray-haired deacon gave the homily and hit all the Democrat talking points.
You know what yeah also Together in mission which give money in pledges to needy pariashes
Look like I didn't go to church this morning I went to Democratic party meeting ROFL
In thinking about this further, I believe that the priest's interpreation of the Sermon on the Mount, may not have been licit. What do you think?
I'm not Catholic, but ...
that priest needs to read Romans 13.
If so, then the onus is on Roman Catholics to react not as lemmings..
To react as Eagles not as rats..
Odds of that happening.. slim or not at all..
We almost got up and walked out halfway through, but instead slipped out as quietly as we could while people were going up to the front.
The Left will soon get its wish -- tens of millions of brand new Democrat voters. ....soon to be followed by their extended families. And in a country so evenly divided (electorally) that doesn't exactly bode well for the future of the GOP.
Well I walk out after communion last week other priest went into Anti Bush rant I have Church email addy maybe send smack chat email
HEY Monk check this item out
We had a very good sermon about the way that opening oneself and/or being opened to God's love and then being committed to faith in God's love enables one to be a conduit of His love and even to love enemies.
No politics at all. Good solid evangelism. Finest Kind. WE have some outstanding Dominicans here, a real gift from God. Most of the US Bishops' political stands are just proof that they ought to stick to their knitting and let us laity stick to ours.
No, he talked about loving those really hard to love, unconditionally, even our sworn enemies. Our priest always talks to us in reference to the day's bible readings, but this is Wichita, and we are blessed to have the priests we have. And, our Bishop is the best, nothing wanting here.
Praise the Lord
The Catholics believe in providing sustenance for the needy and so I can understand the logic. Where they go wrong is that they are taking (stealing) from the American people, whether it is a job or tax money for road maintenance or health care etc.
As in so many other organizations, it seems the hierarchy works directly against the best interests of the people they claim to serve.
How about let Cesar have his area and the church have theirs on immigration.
No, he was just wrong.
Very possibly would have told the priest he's all wet.
The law is the law and too few in this country seem to agree.
Weird. Is there some reason they chose this topic today?
Incidentally, I don't think it is necessarily unAmerican. I was in favor of Bush's suggested immigration policy (which he never got to develop or explain any further, unfortunately) and thought it was a reasonable compromise. But I don't see what immigration has to do with Mass or that there is any reason for these priests and bishops to go into something that really is political and not a question of morality.
Way too many clergy - not only Catholic clergy, alas - are Democrats first and Christians only if it doesn't conflict with their being Democrats. I bet these same priests you heard are probably pretty silent on Pro-Life Sunday. That has been my experience with this leftist political type, at least.
No, it's a combination of concern for the immigrants and lack of concern for our nation.
