Assault Rifles for Hunters? (Zumbo goes mad)
Remington Country website ^ | 16 FEB 2007 | Jim Zumbo

Posted on 02/18/2007 11:32:57 AM PST by xsrdx

As I write this, I'm hunting coyotes in southeastern Wyoming with Eddie Stevenson, PR Manager for Remington Arms, Greg Dennison, who is senior research engineer for Remington, and several writers. We're testing Remington's brand new .17 cal Spitfire bullet on coyotes.

I must be living in a vacuum. The guides on our hunt tell me that the use of AR and AK rifles have a rapidly growing following among hunters, especially prairie dog hunters. I had no clue. Only once in my life have I ever seen anyone using one of these firearms.

I call them "assault" rifles, which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles. They tell me that some companies are producing assault rifles that are "tackdrivers."

Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our "sporting firearms."

This really has me concerned. As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the praries and woods.

I caught a re-run of the old TV movie about Pvt. Slovak. It was quite well-cast, IMO. :-)

I cried at the ending.

When I found out they didn't use live ammo when they executed Martin Sheen for cowardice.

That sure was quick. Looks like Mr. Zumbo is hating life as of now.

And also check out Zumbo's blog site....

In particular, note that he still has his *This is Remington Country* banner ad link up. And scroll down to the bottom of his *apology* to read the comments....

I read it.

The first writings no doubt reflect his real attitude until his readers Burried him and probably his employers with scathing mail and email.

Dear Jimbo,

The second amendment ain't about huntin' - it's about giving "we the people" the power to ward off tyranny. Hunting is a separate issue.

Heh, heh, heh... yup.

Of course, back in the '70s when the film originally aired, we didn't yet know Sheen was actually worse than Slovik. Life imitates (and sometimes exceeds) art.

Remember the pre-anti-gun Hollywood moment of firearm related realism in that film? Blank cartridges cause no recoil! (a fact that many filmmakers have yet to realistically deal with).

Sounds like Jim Zumbo has 100% bought the bullsh!t.
Bought it and, the worst part, perpetuating it.
This article is nothing more than a rough course of indoctrination.

Good for Remington! I hope they read this thread and that they recognize continued support when they see it.

Hillarious stuff... Almost makes you feel sorry for the guy. He stuck his foot in it, and he knows it.

This is from the Outdoor Life website as of Feb. 19:

Statement from Outdoor Life

Due to the controversy surrounding Jim Zumbo’s recent postings, Outdoor Life has decided to discontinue the “Hunting With Zumbo” blog for the time being. Outdoor Life has always been, and will always be, a steadfast supporter of our Second Amendment rights, which do not make distinctions based on the looks of the firearms we choose to own, shoot and take hunting. Please direct any comments you have to OLletters@time4.com.

Jim Zumbo has screwed the pooch on this one..here's why

Dumbo Zumbo has disappointed hundreds of thousands of his readers with his capitulation to sarah Brady. Calling anyone who uses a semi-automatic rifle a terrorist due to the fact that we use what he deems a "terrorist rifle" has poisoned him in their eyes forever.

His apology was contrived as well. It didn't sound like the apology of someone who was contrite, rather the apology of someone who realized they had let their true feelings out to a bunch of people who could really hurt his chances of making a living.

He wasn't sorry that he'd posted that garbage, he was just sorry that he was in trouble for it. It was like the Kerry apology for calling people in Iraq stupid. Not sorry for saying it, just sorry we "terrorist rifle users" weren't smart enough to understand his sophisticated nuances.

In addition, I wonder if he realized that by typing that paragraph in their, he's reduced himself to being Sarah Brady's prison bitch for the rest of his life? From now on, he's going to be known to gun writers as the guy who advocated gun control, and looked down on them for using a rifle with a black plastic stock.

The gun grabbers will use his column in their vile advertisements forever,...painting him as the fourth Dixie Chick...who spoke his mind and was descended upon by hordes of man-beasts set forth by the evil gun lobby.

I wonder if he REALLY thought this through before he typed it? Subscriptions to Outdoor Life will be cancelled in the tens of thousands and his association with Remington was gone as of this morning, according to a press release I saw.

NO hunting trips with Ted Nugent shooting groundhogs with AR-15s will help him either.

He's done..maybe he can get a job with the Hillary Clinton as the representative to outdoor groups of Fudds.

They are the only ones who will tolerate him now.

One good thing, before this I had never heard the term "Fudd" before. Once I figured it out, I realized I've seen hundreds of them over the years. :)
