As I write this, I'm hunting coyotes in southeastern Wyoming with Eddie Stevenson, PR Manager for Remington Arms, Greg Dennison, who is senior research engineer for Remington, and several writers. We're testing Remington's brand new .17 cal Spitfire bullet on coyotes.
I must be living in a vacuum. The guides on our hunt tell me that the use of AR and AK rifles have a rapidly growing following among hunters, especially prairie dog hunters. I had no clue. Only once in my life have I ever seen anyone using one of these firearms.
I call them "assault" rifles, which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles. They tell me that some companies are producing assault rifles that are "tackdrivers."
Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our "sporting firearms."
This really has me concerned. As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the praries and woods.
Which is why I hunt deer with claymore mines.
Kind of like cops and photo radar.
Sporting? Phhttttttttt!
I think it would be better to have him get an epiphany, though (with a little help from his friends in the firearms community), and then let him preach it from here on.
We don't have enough gunowners to afford to be able to eat one of our misguided own...
...And a tip of the hat to TNS for the tip.. !.
If Dumbo Zumbo is that misguided, he's NOT "one of our own". And just maybe he'll be an object lesson to the OTHER "we're just hunters, we don't REALLY support the Second Amendment" types.
These fools don't realize that once the gun-grabbers succeed in demonizing semi-autos, they'll be after the bolt-actions next.
Wow!
The power of the internet. (and FR!)
WOW.
I've been getting emails all day today from friends in the outdoor publishing/manufacturing business about this. What a shakeup.
Thanks for the ping.
I knew they had semi-auto shotguns, (I own one), but was unaware of the rifle. I note they did not waste any time dissociating themselves from Mr. Zumbo, either. Maybe he will reconsider his position.
It's a working example of Goebbel's aphorism that "if you say black is white and white is black long enough, people will come to believe it". We like to think of our minds, the human mind, as some powerful and rock-steady construct, but from my experiences, I can only say, "If only". History, past and present, makes it clear that the human mind is nowhere as rigid and clear a thing as we'd like to think, and unfortunately can and is molded like clay.
Thirty years of absorbing the leftmedia crapola, the insidious power of incrementalism and the agenda behind it being what it is, could very well have "programmed" Zumbo much more than he could ever have realized until he inadvertantly stepped in it, big time.
Dunno 'bout that. We could look up and find a Zumbo in 'our ranks' being used by the grabbers as 'a noted hunting authority' advocate to outlaw those firarms he doesn't personally like.
Now more than ever, we need to be proactive in our identitfication of those within who would sell us out...
Remington knows where their money comes from..... Guys like us.
Applause for Remington.
Us womin, too. ;o)
That was one career ending blog, kind of a Dixie Chicks moment!
IMO He has nothing in common with me.
He admits on his own blog that he is:
"...totally ignorant about these types of guns."
Then why didn't he just keep his mouth shut?
The Brady Campaign is already quoting him:
Even Remington's top gun writer agrees on Assault Weapons
And yes, the above blog does belong to the Brady Campaign:
Brady Campaign Launches MySpace Page
This man would be better employed by the Brady Campaign or the Violence Poverty Center.

I'm not making excuses for the guy -- as I've already said myself, he's already done damage. But, just an observation.
