As I write this, I'm hunting coyotes in southeastern Wyoming with Eddie Stevenson, PR Manager for Remington Arms, Greg Dennison, who is senior research engineer for Remington, and several writers. We're testing Remington's brand new .17 cal Spitfire bullet on coyotes.
I must be living in a vacuum. The guides on our hunt tell me that the use of AR and AK rifles have a rapidly growing following among hunters, especially prairie dog hunters. I had no clue. Only once in my life have I ever seen anyone using one of these firearms.
I call them "assault" rifles, which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles. They tell me that some companies are producing assault rifles that are "tackdrivers."
Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our "sporting firearms."
This really has me concerned. As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the praries and woods.
There are entirely too many hunters like Dumbo Zumbo who don't have a clue about what the 2nd A really means. If it isn't a walnut stock bolt action, then they don't see a need for it. I've seen theis attitude in spades at the Buckarama in GA when GA gun owners (known as CSG at the time) used to work the show. "I don't care about you assault rifles, I just want to shoot my gun." "What do you need all them bullets for? If you can't hit it in one shot you ain't any good." rtards.
I have read that at one time, the Mauser bolt action type rifle was considered very unsporting because it was a "weapon of war", not a sporting arm.
Most all military rifles in the past have become "sporting".
Madison, North Carolina As a result of comments made by Mr. Jim Zumbo in recent postings on his blog site, Remington Arms Company, Inc., has severed all sponsorship ties with Mr. Zumbo effective immediately. While Mr. Zumbo is entitled to his opinions and has the constitutional right to freely express those options, these comments are solely his, and do not reflect the views of Remington. We can't nail a little editor girl who writes anti-gun drivel like this whan they work for the Wash comPost or the Atlanta Urinal, but when one of our own does it the retribution is swift - good for remington. ###Remington has spent tens of millions of dollars defending our Second Amendment rights to privately own and possess firearms and we will continue to vigorously fight to protect these rights, commented Tommy Millner, Remingtons CEO and President. As hunters and shooters of all interest levels, we should strive to utilize this unfortunate occurrence to unite as a whole in support of our Second Amendment rights.
We regret having to terminate our long-standing relationship with Mr. Zumbo, who is a well-respected writer and life-long hunter.
He sure blew it, in more ways than one.
It will be interesting if prints a RETRACTION in the next edition of Outdoor Life.
Dunno 'bout that. We could look up and find a Zumbo in 'our ranks' being used by the grabbers as 'a noted hunting authority' advocate to outlaw those firarms he doesn't personally like.
The Brady gang is already using it on their blog, just as you suggest: Even Remington's top gun writer agrees on Assault Weapons
Now more than ever, we need to be proactive in our identitfication of those within who would sell us out...
Those who commit treason against their country, adhering to our enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, should be hanged or imprisoned as provided by law- with a ban on the holding of any public office of trust thereafter.
Those who solicit the passage of unconstitutional laws that deny the constitutional rights of others deserve no less for their attempt to cause criminal violence. And that too has penalties called for in the law.
United States Code, U.S. Criminal Code:
Title 18, Part I, Chapter 13, Section 242:
Deprivation of rights under color of law
Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both;
and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both;
and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.
I think in this case it is due to the author's vested interest in pimping "Remington's brand new .17 cal Spitfire bullet.
When you discover a cancer, you cut it out if at all possible. Zumbo's comments were based upon opinions which are shared by too many who buy into the "evil black gun" nonsense, so perhaps Remington's act of distancing itself from him will open a few eyes among the "tweed and plaid" crowd.
As the old saying goes: "With friends like this, who needs enemies?" Indeed.
I think it would be better to have him get an epiphany, though (with a little help from his friends in the firearms community), and then let him preach it from here on.
You need to update your screen grab. It appears that Remington doesn't want to go into Chjapter 11 bankruptcy the way K-Mart did after waffling about firing Rosie O'Donnell as their Spokeshog:
Remington to Sever Sponsorship Ties with Jim ZumboWe don't have enough gunowners to afford to be able to eat one of our misguided own...

Think of Dumbo Zumbo as being a deserter in wartime, or as a traitor to both his cause and country.
It will be interesting if there IS a next edition of Outdoor Life.
He crapped in his messkit big time. That ill considered blog (which shows that despite being an outdoor writer and hunter for 40+ years that Dumbo Zumbo doesn't have a clue about the 2nd amend) cost him a serious chunk of his livelihood. And you know what? I have ZERO sympathy for him. It's rtards who think like him who are responsible for emboldening the anti-gunners As far as I'm concerned we should all have one of these
for coyote hunting (or anything else) if we want.
I caught a re-run of the old TV movie about Pvt. Slovak. It was quite well-cast, IMO. :-)
Nice doe & a even nicer FAL . Good job keep up hte excellent work.
Looks like Mr. Zumbo issued a followup apology on his blogsite......... Wonder if anyone here read it
Yeah, I read it. His ignorance is towering. I guess he's just one of those writers who doesn't read or bother to keep up with what's going on in his field.
What, a *second* apology? Unless he improves on the first one (I was tired, I typed before I thought, blah, blah, blah...), and manages to get the Brady Campaign to cease it's use of the original comments, it probably won't smooth many ruffled feathers.
...loaded with "vest busting cop killer bullets"...
..." away from him before he hurts somebody."
And also check out Zumbo's blog site....
