With the bare fact being that no Republican in recent memory has been able to win a major contest without at least the tacit backing of the religious right, Rudy Guliani might be trying to buck that trend.

That's retarded.
Evangelicals only became politically active in the 1970s. In contrast, the Republicans have been promoting pro-military, pro-business policies from Lincoln to McKinley to Eisenhower.
Duncan Hunter even isn't pure-- the guy is a big government protectionist at a time when classical economics has proven its superiority.
This shows the whining is less about purity, and more about activists throwing a baby-fit about 2-3 issues: abortion, gays, and maybe guns.

Interesting take by the author.......
Howard Fineman, writing for MSNBC, speaks about the 'Three Kingmakers." He is of course talking about Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and James Dobson. According to Fineman, Falwell has already decided on McCain and Robertson is favoring Romney. Leaving only James Dobson as the undecided of the three. The problem is this-how many Americans, in 2008, are going to trust the candidate who ends up with the majority of these three "Kingmakers" behind him? So maybe Rudy Guliani is playing it smart. He knows that if he is the Republican candidate the evangelical voters will mostly do one of two things. Hold their noses and vote for him over the Democratic candidate, or stay home and not vote at all. Either way will help him.

I still feel like this is encouraging the democrats to run as far left as they please and to do so practically unopposed.

I haven't endorsed Hunter either.
I consider abortion, 2nd amendment rights, family values, and freedom of speech to be be very important issues. Am I wrong on that? I don't think so.

Our conservative Roman Catholic and Jewish friends combined with us make up a pretty large bloc of voters.
And there are alot of folks out there that just believe killing babies is wrong without any kind of religion.
I knock on alot of doors and talk to all kinds of people. This summer I approached a huge group of bikers, (real ones) and handed them a brocher for my candidate. They looked like gun types so I started to bring up his "gunowners of America" endorsement. Before I could they started saying, "We love this guy, he is pro-life"
This happens to me so often during campaigns, I have to believe Life is way more of an issue than anyone believes.

"evangelicals might be the single most immature voting block in the country."
Uh...more than blacks, who vote to be the plantation lackeys of their Demonrat masters? Or Jews, who vote for friends of the Palestinians and enemies of Israel?
To: deaconjim
I am going to ignore them all until they start talking about our borders and the security of this country. Until they start talking about immigration and the thousands of FELONS now in this country - that means until they start calling for the Laws of this nation be obeyed. Retread politicians spewing all the same tired old rhetoric never going to the root cause of anything like teaching the teachers before graduating; curbing the insurance companies who feed on everyone and every thing; courts that will throw out all the frivolous law suits; I would like to hear just one of them discuss the waste of dollars and time on Patrick Fitzgeralds little war or the egregious trial of the two border guards - I am disgusted with the whole lot of the worn out, thread bare line up of future wannabe presidents
starting with the inglorious and hyped Ms. Clinton what a farce!; what a disgrace to America that we can't do better than that faux American.

What good will it do to nominate judges, if you don't control the Senate? Giuliani will split the party and the Senate will not swing to the GOP.

how about a block that has certain principles that are not negotiable and that we refuse to compromise. I will hold my nose and vote R in most instances, but I cannot vote for pro-abort candidates. You see, I will ultimately have to answer for my vote to God, and that trumps any other considerations.

He leaves out the third party alternative, which will hurt Rudy the worst.
