It did not compare to the mean, stinking, rotten likes of Michael Moore,Move on.Org George Soros, ex President Clinton, carter, Hillary, all those Clinton promoted traitorous B@stards in the State dept, Pentagon. Generals like Weasley Clark. There is NO comparison, NONE. I have only touched the Tip of the Iceberg, but you have to remember all the former CLinton People like Maddie Halfwit, Sandy Burglar, Lanny Davis, et al getting air time to slam anything that GWB would do or say. We could start a separate thread that would have 1500 posts just on all the People that were given air time one way or another to slam GWB.

Where are you going to find those kind of candidates that want Schnitz, Ingraham and Boortz tearing them to shreds because they do not do exactly what they want? Who in the Hell would be stupid enough to put themselves through that? That is why Rudy is the choice of a lot of even very Conservative pubbies. He dealt with John Gotti, and he can handle these thugs, but there are very few that will put up with that onslaught of hate.

It is almost impossible to overcome the power of mass media, and your son must have internalized many of the accusations against Bush that he was exposed to in his everyday life.

I remember when Newt became Majority Leader. Many of my co-workers in Canada instantly, without hesitation, assumed that he was the Grinch that stole the House, etc. They treated me like the crazy aunt in the attic because I spoke up for conservative American values.

What did they know about American politics! But they were positive that Newt was bad news --- because of the mass media.

Here is another point about Reagan, the great communicator, which has been dropped down the memory hole (or is not known by anyone born after about 1976) for you to add to your excellent list.

The media portrayed him as such a dull old out-of-touch actor, that every time a press conference was announced, many of us lived in fear that he would have a terrible showing. The Sam Donaldsons and Helen Thomases were vicious, shouting questions, and it was only when President Reagan left the stage, smiling, that we could breathe a sigh of relief -- he had done well!!! He had actually answered all of the questions with intelligence and charm.

And every time the reporters would continue to call him an out-of-touch, nap-taking, B actor, who would not listen to his advisors and cabinet members - who listened to a wife who consulted an astrologer and wore designer clothes.

Remember?

You're hopeless. All politics are local. You have to go race by race to determine the factors that resulted in every Dem incumbent winning his/her race and the loss of over 30 Rep seats. A number of national issues affected local outcomes, e.g., the war, the Foley/Cuningham/Weldon et. al. scandals, the split between the WH and most Reps on illegal immigration, the big spending Rep Congress, voter fatigue with the Reps, poor candidates and badly run campaigns, FEMA's handling of Katrina, etc.

You must also give credit to the Dems who did a superb job of selecting candidates and targeting various races, especially in the Northeast. They recruited a bunch of ex- military candidates in an effort to change their image. The also did a good job of voter turnout.

The senate race in Viginia was a good example of effective Dem strategies in selecting and funding candidates and a poorly run campaign by the Rep incumbent. The Dems got Jim Webb, a former Marine, Navy Cross winner, SECNAV under Reagan, and a son on his way to serve in Iraq with the Marines to go against one of the Reps leading conservative lights. Webb ran a spirited primary against Harrison Miller who the WP endorsed over Webb. Webb got the nomination and capitalized on his military background and moderate stances in a state that is trending more liberal but with a significant military presence, retired and active duty. Allen ran a poor campaign including his famous macacca remark, for which the WP crucified him daily for almost two months. Webb barely won, much to my chagrin. I contributed almost $500 to the Allen campaign, but I was disappointed in the amateurish way he ran the campaign.

I think the constant bashing of the GOP for the border thing...overspending, the war..blah, blah...made too many stay home.

Do you have any hard data to support that assertion, i.e., "too many stayed home." What races specifically were affected by a lack of Rep voter turnout compared to the 2002 mid-terms? You can blame the media all you want and rationalize what happened, but the fact is that the Reps lost and the reasons varied district by district and state by state. We have a lot of work to do if we don't want to become the permanent minority party.

If I was granted a wish, I would wish that every person polled would have to answer some skill testing questions that pertained to the poll.

For example: name the vice-president and one Justice of the Supreme Court.

Name two countries that border Iraq.

You get the idea. LOL!

You attribute too much power and influence to Schnitz (whoever he is), Ingraham and Boortz. I have no idea what size audiences they command in total and how it breaks down by state and Congressional district, but I doubt that many candidates consider them when running for office. You sound like these moonbat Dems who cried about stolen elections in 2000 and 2004, rigged voting machines, and exit polls that were more accurate than the recorded votes. You lose elections on a race by race basis with different variables affecting the outcome including the candidates themselves.

George Galloway was one of the most vocal war opponents in England. Now we find he is under investigation for taking cash from Saddam.

Now in the face of the Democrat's wholesale cut and run attitude, I have to ask
Who is their George Galloway. Which among them personally profited during Saddam's rein of terror? Which of these Democrats is the leadership protecting? Murtha? Bonior? McDermott? Rockefeller?
There are a lot of questions that would be answered in a free and open Iraq. What secrets are the Dems trying to ensure stay buried in the sands of Iraq?

Rassmussen has it. 2006 Republican turn out down 8% compared to 2004. While a lot of this had to do with fewer voters due to no presidential race, the dems turnout was only down 1%. Significantly, Republican turn out was down 4% over 2002.

I can't find figures for district by district, but these are the numbers for the nation.

In so many votes that were neck and neck, only 3% staying home is more than enough to swing a whole Body in Congress:

VA: Allen 49%, Webb 50%
MT: Burns 48%, Tester 49%
MO: Talent 47%, McKaskill 49%

One or two percent showing up, holding their noses, and pulling the "R" lever, and we wouldn't have Minority Leader Reid.

I saw a headline on a Fox News story yesterday that was hilarious (in it's own way).

The headline said something like "Violence in one part of town doesn't affect the celebrations in the other".

When I saw that, my FIRST thought was that it was Baghdad or Beirut or somewhere in that area, having one of their religious celebrations...and that the bombing was just around the corner.

Well...imagine my surprise when I realized they were talking about Mardi Gras in NEW ORLEANS????

I just laughed...because that headline only conjured up images of the war in Iraq....never anything domestic..only those horrible people in the Middle East are violent, right?? /sarc
