Unless Romney turns out to have a Mark Foley problem, he is looking like a decent compromise candidate between the Giuliani haters and the McCain haters. I also predict that this time next year, nobody will still know who Duncan Hunter is.

Romney has got to make it clear he is with conservatives on pro life and guns. He has to repeat many times he will never sign a pro abortion measure and never sign a law increasing gun controls.

Also, he has to say any judge or justice he nominates will be a Scalia type conservative, no middle or the road types. He has to say too that taxes and spending are too high. Last, no retreat on the war on terror. He has to say this in the primaries and before November 2008. If he doesn't he will lose to Hillary/Obama as we conservatives will not hold our noses and vote Republican forever.

On paper Romney looks good and obviously is quite telegenic. However, I think the LDS factor will really (unfairly) hurt him in a national campaign.
