Early this week, the Bush administration urged angry conservatives to remain calm over the convictions of two former Border Patrol agents who shot an unarmed Mexican drug smuggler, but petitions for their release continued to flood the White House.
It did not help that one the lawmen, Ignacio Ramos, was attacked by Latino gang members in his cell at the Yazoo City Federal Correctional Complex in Mississippi and beaten bloody. Days after prison officials confirmed the beating on Feb. 8, Department of Homeland Security officials admitted that an inspector general's report erroneously quoted Border Patrol agents as saying Ramos and his partner, Jose Compean, intended to kill Mexicans.

Ping.
I decline to "remain calm" as long as those two are in prison. What a disgrace. And what a message to everyone who's defending our borders.
Meanwhile the smuggler enjoys amnesty and is going to sue for millions

Good to see even the pros get tripped up relying on spell-checker.
The System is jinxed. Common sense would tell you that they should be free.
Does Mexico have photos of GWB with a hooker or something?
Since the convictions, a group called
Grassfire.org
has collected 40,000 signatures on a "Pardon the Agents" petition.
Ping!
WTH?
What evidence is there that Ramos fired more than once or took "careful aim"?
When I see articles like this, it makes me want to see where the average journalist ranks academically compared to other professions!
I still think that Bush, Rove and the RNC tanked the last election in order to get a congress that will give him (them) the amnesty program. Their actions here just go along with the administrations desire for a more open border. Put two agents in jail and it will scare the devil out of the others. Look for a slack off of arrests along the border with the agents taking longer coffee breaks. Why would they put themselves in a position where they could be sent to jail knowing their government (employeer) will do all it can to put them there.
Ha- I've been trying to figure out why he puts Mexico/Mexicans wishes above US citizens. They must have something on him-you might be on to something!
bump
Considering the President is so anxious to sign an amnesty legislation that will effectively create tens of millions of new Democrat voters overnight and all but wrap up the '08 election for the Democrat nominee that question isn't an unreasonable one.
"After the shooting, the agents collected all shell casings at the scene, threw them away and did not mention the shooting to superiors, a violation of Border Patrol procedures that call for an oral report after a weapon is discharged, according to the report and court records."Do we not now know that supervisors were on the scene and an oral report was in fact made?
Roger was outside his studio talking to people who were using his shredder to cut up their BofA cards when this gal approached him with yet another story of how our government is outta control.
You got it. I suspect Dubya will be the last Republican President ever.
