Bill Simon: I think Rudy will make an extraordinary President. I don't know of anyone I'm in 100% agreement with respect to every issue -- even my fellow conservatives. So I'm not troubled if I don't agree with someone on every issue as long as they demonstrate very strong leadership qualities, which Rudy does, and a very strong sense of public service, which Rudy does, and a very firm agenda in areas that are important to me and in a way in which he can execute -- all of which Rudy does.
When you think about the priorities he's expressed -- things like national security -- I don't know of anyone better in the public arena now who can handle issues of national security better than Mayor Giuliani.
And when you talk about issues related to fiscal conservatism, which are important to Rudy, I don't know anybody in the public arena who has cut taxes 23 times as Rudy did when he was mayor of New York; who has shrunk the size of government, which he did when he was mayor of New York; reduced the welfare rolls by over 50 percent, which he did when he was mayor of New York. And that's not going into reducing crime by 65% and many other things that he did while mayor in a situation that, before he became mayor, was widely regarded as the second toughest job in American politics, and was widely regarded as an ungovernable situation.
I think he did an extraordinary job as Mayor of New York in a Democrat-controlled environment, and being able to function as a fiscal conservative in that Democrat-controlled environment is an amazing achievement.
Cunningham: How long have you known Mayor Giuliani?

AND, consequently, a solid conservative. Yet another conservative for Rudy.
I'll check in there once in a while; thanks for finding that.
Forget it. The FR is no longer for discussion and promotion of conservatism. It's just another hack site for the Big Govt Republican Party.
I'll just get the popcorn out and watch another big round of self-deception. Maybe I can enjoy a few more years of relative prosperity before the big spender Pubbies and their pals the Rats ruin it all.
"In Democracy both parties spend the majority of their time proving the other party unfit to rule and succeed, and are right." HL Mencken.
Little has changed.
Just like Reagan, who was able to reach across the aisle to a group of voters subsequently titled Reagan Democrats, people who didn't necessarily agree with Ronald Reagan but who knew where he stood and knew that they could trust him.
That's why he's gaining traction even among some conservatives -- like me! No, I'm not having an identity issue; I am a conservative. It's just that it's vital to American security to have a strong leader to continue to fight the WoT. That's my priority.
We may want to remember the difference between defending and endorsing. And perhaps word the list that way.
Excellent point, as there is a difference... and when they do eventually give the endorsement we can easily switch them over!... LOL
I like the way you think!
from KALIfornia, no less.
Just as RINO-rudy is a "conservative" (many would have us believe) from NEW YORK CITY, Simon is a "conservative" from Kalifornia. There is NO SUCH political animal from EITHER of those God-forsaken BLUE-states-from-HELL.
They are BOTH, LIBERAL RINOS (like ahnold) that need to be taken for a short walk on a long pier.
simon is a GOOFBALL if he thinks RINO-rudy is the answer to what the Republican party needs to have as POTUS.
Thank you, Mercat.
You're removed.
In this case you get HILLARY.
If the Republicans decide to leave the Conservative base, it's their own fault when the Hildabeast beats Rudy.
Vote for a liberal, and all you'll get is more liberalism. We're not liberals, nor will we endorse or vote for a liberal.
Asking us to vote for Rudy is like asking a rabbit to vote for a fox.
Oh, I get it. Every bonafide conservative, those who have run for office, gone on public record as a solid conservative, is a "goofball" because you don't agree with them.
We're the conservative base. Those who are leaving are the social conservatives.
Social conservatives have long threatened the party ... and will give us Hillary if they persist.
How could you tell?
It's kind of silly. Simon is as conservative as they come. So is Newt. but now they are Rinos or Liberals.
That's our beef in a nutshell, and...
WE'RE SURE.
Let the man remain a politician in nyc or some other LIBERAL northeastern-corridor "Peoples Republic".
No one is saying that Rudy is a social conservative because he isn't, and no one ever said that Arnold was a conservative either. Rudy is a fiscal conservative, but that doesn't mean he can't do the right thing by conservatives, like appointing constitutional originalist judges to the Supreme Court.
G'night.
You go, BauBau! :-)
...and while you're at it, you can give Hillary some suggestions on picking out drapes for the oval office.
She has a shot against McLame -- but not against Rudy.
