Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has told US President George W. Bush by videolink that the first few days of their countries' joint security plan in Baghdad had been a great success.
"He told President Bush that the security plan had seen dazzling success during its first days and that the government will deal with every outlaw in a firm manner whatever group they belong to," according to his office on Friday.
Some Sunni Iraqis fear their Shiite prime minister might use the security plan as a cover to advance his own group's interests, but Maliki denies this, and cited the example of aid he said he was giving Sunnis in western Iraq.
"He said the sheikhs of the tribes in Anbar Province play a very important role in the hunt for Al-Qaeda and that the government will supply all kinds of support to these tribes and start reconstruction efforts," his office said.

I'm trying to put together a little time-line, I'd like to call CSPAN either Saturday or Sunday morning and read it to the viewers.
Basically I'd like to read the date Bush announced the plan, the date (like what 3 days later) when the democrats called it stupid, destined to failure, and a mistake.
Then I'd like to point out the day it actually started (about 2 weeks after the announcement, 10 days since the demoract party declaried it failed), and then intermix quotes from democrats from the past 3 days with dates of different battles or victories, terrorists killed, Sadr fleeing, the words my Malaki (also from the past 3 days)
I just need to get the dates, quotes and names written down for the events that I have watched transpire. I got a raid tonight so not sure if I'll get to do it for tomorrow, but I'd love to.

--The fact that we have run into so little resistance so far makes me very suspicious. It may be that the terrorists are just laying low until this blows over and the extra troops are pulled back out.--
Perhaps, but we should bear in mind that the "surge" is not just 21,000 US soldiers - it is also 60,000 to 70,000 extra IRAQI troops flooding the Baghdad region.

I just sent SanFranNan the following e-mail:
You and your Democrat Party had better hurry up with your time-wasting, useless, demoralizing, defeatist non-binding "resolution" condemning the troop increase in Iraq before even the old media has to start talking about the success of this plan. We already have news from AP that Malaki has reported great success with the new rules of engagement and the increased troops in Baghdad, so time's short for you and your syncopants and handmaidens to declare the United States has been defeated. Come on, get with it - vote for losing, before winning is too clear for even you to deny. Keep up the good work - we need a Republican majority in the House and Senate, not to mention a Republican president, in 2008, and you and your Democrat Party are helping enormously.

If the bad guys make a run for it to Iran , they will lick their wounds , and of course come back when we retreat . The so called surge is 2 yrs to late. I quess after wasting more than 3 thousand of Americas finest we decide to get tough . But it will all work out when open borders George gives the fighting clans green cards.

A bunch of people in this thread make me want to PUKE.
I swear, with such a bunch of sorry sad sacks eagerly looking to piss on any parade, who the hell needs the democrat party or a biased media?
Here is a newsflash for you 'purists' who love to pride yourself on "being realistic" by always being 'smartly cynical' need to learn to take some good news when you actually f'ing get it.
Thats YOUR problem... and I don't care if you suffer from some kind of sad psychosis that forces you into that type of perspective on life.
Some say "expect the worst, you'll never be disappointed", which makes sense for a boy-scout. But in a world where perception is reality and the reality is being SO distorted by our political enemies, you'll forgive me if I find your willingness to join in them in their effort as anything other than selfish and pathetic.
The libs take any news and spin it as bad for us. Meanwhile, we have people like the pathetic weaklings in here trying to play down good news, with the only 'benefit' being able to say "I told you so" if their HYPOTHETICAL plays out... thats OUR problem.
Grow a set you people!!!

After further reading over the posts, I have come to the conclusion that SEVERAL people in this thread are simply trolls, and must assume there is was a concerted effort somewhere to troll FR as the debate is going on this week.

Serves as an interesting backdrop to the vote in the house today.

Lost in the discussion of the "surge" were adjustments to the Rules of Engagement. It wasn't lost on us - a friend who is less news-addicted than we asked several weeks ago what we thought of the surge, and we told him the changes in the ROE was what would make the most difference.

A bit premature."Yeah, I imagine smart ones got the hell out of Dodge and the not so smart ones are laying low. For now anyway. I hope it lasts, but given the odds I have my doubts."
The evacuation may even be pre-arranged. There's a "Secret, Personal and Urgent" letter running around from Maliki to the Mahdis advising them "to hide the leaders and commanders of Al-Mahdi Army in Iran ". I saw it earlier today on one site and can't find my way back to it now. It's discussed at Rightwing Nuthouse in this article.
