Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has told US President George W. Bush by videolink that the first few days of their countries' joint security plan in Baghdad had been a great success.
"He told President Bush that the security plan had seen dazzling success during its first days and that the government will deal with every outlaw in a firm manner whatever group they belong to," according to his office on Friday.
Some Sunni Iraqis fear their Shiite prime minister might use the security plan as a cover to advance his own group's interests, but Maliki denies this, and cited the example of aid he said he was giving Sunnis in western Iraq.
"He said the sheikhs of the tribes in Anbar Province play a very important role in the hunt for Al-Qaeda and that the government will supply all kinds of support to these tribes and start reconstruction efforts," his office said.

By the time the back-seat generals in Congress are done voting on their finely worded non-binding resolutions, there will be stability in Baghdad.
Our troops are playing for keeps in Iraq while they play games in Congress.
Political Correctness (forced liberalism) wouldn't "allow" it. Now, Iraqi law is in charge and we're playing back up. Different game and different rules. "Offending" the enemy is acceptable.
A BSer can spot another BSer a mile away.
AP (Always Pimping) knows that Maliki is BSing, and they are hoping to pound President Bush into the media turf when Maliki's BSing comes home to roost.
Yeah, I imagine smart ones got the hell out of Dodge and the not so smart ones are laying low. For now anyway. I hope it lasts, but given the odds I have my doubts.
The fact that we have run into so little resistance so far makes me very suspicious. It may be that the terrorists are just laying low until this blows over and the extra troops are pulled back out.
Translation: "We have had dazzling success. Now please go so I can let my dear friend Mookie back in."
I was going to say much the same thing. Time is running out for the Democrats, al Qaeda in Iraq, and al Sadr formerly in Iraq. We can expect the Democrats to become more and more shrill as the elected Iraqi government and Coalition Forces destroy the enemy in Iraq. Not since the US overthrew the Left's beloved Saddam, have they been more fatuous and quixotic in their support for nihilistic mass murderers. They'll need to move on to protecting the president of Iran soon.
Good question. I think it's the "in a few months we will have it under control" syndrome, ie, underestimating the resolve of the enemy.
Setting us up for a let down?...so French.
Did I say I don't trust AFP?
I agree... for AP???
You can bet this won't see light of day on eve news.
Jack Murtha is not going to be able to move fast enough to betray our troops.....
HA!
I HATE Jack Murtha, we need to Swift Boat that Bastard.
Alexander conquered all that with 30,000. Pres Bush, historian, should have selected that number for his Surge buildup. The locals remember Alexander very well and would have taken the hint.
what a sad day for the dims

This is great to hear.
The former gets rid of far more bad guys sooner, but the latter gives the impression that you are "winning," and, if the politicians are weak-kneed, tends to solidify support better.
F-the media. I live in Baghdad and the surge has done a great job cleaning out the thugish militias and terror cells.
Things were not yet in place....like the Iraqi army and the elections ....and that clown that preceded Malaki was playing as a Chief Executive....
