Ricky Martin Defends Obscene Gesture
Associated Press ^ | 2/16/2007 | Associated Press

Ricky Martin, who was a headliner at the 2001 inauguration ball for President George W. Bush, has a message for the American commander in chief about war.

At a recent concert, the 35-year-old singer stuck up his middle finger when he sang the president's name in his song "Asignatura Pendiente," which includes the words, "a photo with Bush." The gesture last Friday prompted cheers from thousands of fans in the San Juan stadium.

On Thursday, the Puerto Rican heartthrob repeated his criticism of the Iraq war and explained his changed position on Bush.

"My convictions of peace and life go beyond any government and political agenda and as long as I have a voice onstage and offstage, I will always condemn war and those who promulgate it," Martin said about his action in an e-mail statement sent to The Associated Press via a spokesman.

What was his big hit again...? Oh yeah. "Livin' La Poopa Shoota"

As Larry the Cable Guy would say, "Now that right there is funny, I don't care who you are!".

I am not the least bit surprised from any of these 'artists' and what they do...they were hatched from some pipe dream instead of being born....

I will always condemn war and those who promulgate it,

So will he also condemn Bill and Hillary for promulgating war on Yugoslavia?

Ricky Martin's into guys and he won't admit it, so he lashes out at macho older guys he's attracted to - like the President.

You can find this behavior among 12 year old girls in any schoolyard.

Don't worry about it, you seem like one of the good guys. The biggest problem in the USA is the fact that there are too many idiotic, liberal White people. Of course, an antiwar liberal of any race is of equal illrepute.

I wonder what Ricky does if popular opinion changes on the war?

His convictions on life and peace? He's 35 years old and has mostly likely spent most of that time parading himself in costume for money in front of the highest bidders. Oh, yeah.

Soemone should poll all the former members of Menudo. The world can't wait to find out what they think about global politics.

Ricky Martin Defends? Obscene Gesture

Suffering cats! More like waves pom-poms and screams for attention. I love the way the media casts these idiots as selfless martyrs risking everything, as if they were fighting against all odds. It's easy to jump on the band wagon and nod in agreement. Had ricky stood up and SUPPORTED the war in Iraq, then the 'defense' stance would make more sense.
