In an important victory for Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, GOP delegates to the state party's convention Sunday twice soundly snubbed conservatives' resolutions opposing his landmark, controversial universal health care plan. First, a committee dodged the resolutions on the widely divisive issue that includes myriad stakeholders, then the general assembly refused to waive rules needed to consider the resolutions.
Schwarzenegger administration officials hailed the development as a sign that many involved in the issue remain open-minded.
"It's encouraging people want to be part of the debate," said Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Sabrina Lockhart.
"People understand the health care system is broken," she said. "The plan is a starting point. The governor's looking forward to working with everyone Democrats and Republicans alike. He wants everyone, with a stake, at the table."
The similar resolutions, supported by conservatives such as Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, would have condemned the governor's health care plan as a tax increase.

What is broken is the California GOP.
Maybe I don't get it. However, even Steve Forbe calls Arnie's plan an invitation to increase the cost of medicine. Unless the California GOP has been taken over by the left wing -- the only other thing I can think of is source of the report. Is this a leftist paper that slanted the story?
Please tell me you are not now shilling for new taxes and the $11 BILLION (that's $11,000,000,000) ArnoldCare program?

Oh, No, I'm sure that could never be.
We wouldn't want to stand in the way of Progressivism, no matter the cost, Don't sweat the details..;-)
So Republicans are supposed to be for nationalized health care this election cycle? Someone needs to update me as to what all these changes I need to make in my thought process are.
- I need to switch from being pro-life to pro-abortion
- I need to switch from favoring heterosexual relationships to supporting normalization for sodomy
- I need to switch from supporting Judeo-Christian morality to embracing cultural and ethical diversity.
- I need to swtich from opposing illegal immigration to supporting it.
- Do I also need to switch from supporting English as our official language to supporting bilignual education?
- If I already switched from being a small government advocate to being a big government advocate when Bush was elected...do I need to switch back for 2008, or not?
- Apparently, I need to switch from supporting Duncan Hunter to supporting Rudy Giuliani, or so CBS, NBC, and ABC tell me.
...ah heck, why don't I just switch to the Democrats? It will be less to keep track of.
agreed. Maybe some at this convention should have read this:
'Governor Schwarzenegger Should Go to Nashville'

Girlie-men. Ze Baby Olympics, Franz.
How pathetic.
Read the whole article. What is posted is often not indicative of the story.
Geissinger is a top reporter for MediaNews. He's a bit left, but not completely unobjective. The remainder of the article makes clear that the resolutions didn't pass because there wasn't a quorum, not because there is some drumbeat sounding in the GOP to support socialized medicine. (although, sometimes it wouldn't surprise me if there were, given the number of trojan horses around)
Why be for anything at all? Just be a good lil' peasant and do as you are told. ;-)
Don't forget to turn that shotgun in too!
Well stick a fork in the Kalifornistan GOP. We have the charisma-free McClintock and that's about it right now.
Bustamante!
Bustamante's proposal to raise taxes by $8 billion (and not borrow) is looking almost frugal these days. But then there is that mecha thingie. lol.
Baloney.
No legislators are carrying this legislatation from the Gov. None, nada, zip. It has landed with a thud in Sacramento.
The Mass. plan is a tangle of regs, and this is just another version of it. Healthcare is a balkanized disaster in CA, and there is no easy solution. The Feds are laughing at how much Fed money they think they can get for this. There is just no way this will work in CA.
That is what I thought! Thanks for clearing it up man...
