Sheesh. Has it ever occurred to you that a conservative can be more than half conservative/half liberal? Is there no such thing as taking a conservative position on most if not all issues? Most conservatives I know don't want government interference into their lives. Let the people decide at the local level as the founders intended. Most states had laws regarding abortion per their citizens wishes before the liberal activist court intervened at the federal level. We need to fight to get our rights to self-government back.

I agree heartily, Jim. This, as you say, "half conservative/half liberal" view of political thought is just weak conservative-lite thinking that wouldn't have a prayer in the Kirk or Scalia schools. This pitting of conservatives into "fiscal" versus "social" is a serious stumbling block that ought to be opposed at every juncture. Those who "pit" rather ought to concern themselves with a conservative coalition and not try to pass off libertarianism or moderate-Republicanism as genuine, freestanding conservative thought.

Abortion is a "local level" issue only if you do not believe there is a right to life that is guaranteed by the Constitution. I believe the right to life is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution, specifically the 5th Amendment, therefore it is a right insured by the Federal government.

So....does a "real" conservative want Roe overturned or just the abortion issue returned to the states? And if a state decides to ban abortion, what good is that? Activist judges will just overturn the decision. Like with partial birth murder.

I hate abortion. Sadly, I don't believe it will ever stop, completely. It can only be diminished by changing the heart of those who choose it. And I don't rely on any politician or judge or law to do that.
