I'm a small-l libertarian who is repulsed by Rudy. I can assure you, the people on FR supporting Rudy are most certainly NOT libertarians.
If we wait until then to solidly get behind someone, it will be too late to stop the media-anointed Rudy. We need to start donating to conservative candidates NOW.
In other words, the sheep that don't give a crap.
Love them fightin' words, oh, mighty hunter (film buff visualizing JR as Clark Gable in Mogambo).
RINO tracks in low country indicate they are pawing the ground, hell-bent on throwing social conservatives off the Republican flotilla. Pro-life, pro-liberty, pro-gun Americans---straight-shooting loyalists who MADE the party what it is today---are anathema to RINOs.
One of the most ignorant RINO assumptions is that social conservatives are gonna lay down and play dead while RINOs stampede us out of the Repub party.
I swear on a copy of the Second Amendment---it ain't gonna happen.
Go get 'em, JR----hunt them RINOs down, and pack 'em off to a kiddie zoo, where they belong.
You have 1000% backing on this (includes Ava, Grace, and Liz).
I actually wonder whether they were really conservatives to begin with. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who have deluded themselves into believing that the fact that they always vote for the GOP means they are conservatives.
Sure Rudy did a great job in NYC after we were attacked, but the truth is that a lot of Democrats would have acted the same way (Ed Koch has been a big supporter of the War on Terror). And the fact is that what he did after 9/11 was the JOB HE WAS ELECTED TO DO, why should we give him a pass on everything else just because he did his job?
Not into using full sentences anymore?
Bttt!
You are the ideal voter. Truly. A politician and say and do anything his entire career but when it comes election time if he SAYS the right things to you, well, you'll ignore all the negatives and vote for him. Rudy has held some of the most extreme liberal positions his entire career and made policy based upon them. His "firm" support of Partial Birth Abortion is about as extreme as it can get. But if he comes out and SAYS the right things now, you're gullible enough to believe him. Con men and politicians absolutely love people like you.
He's held some of the most liberal positions his entire life and now he's pretending to change them to get the vote because he knows what most Republicans think about those positions. That demonstrates clearly that your claim is false. In 2000, when running for Senate, he went on all the networks and said that he supported Partial Birth Abortion - firmly - and that he would never change his position. I've posted the quotes here a number of times. I'm sure you've seen them. Now he comes out, worried what Republicans would think about it, and SAYS that he doesn't support the barbaric method of killing a child. He's pretending to have changed his position to get the votes. So, your statement is wrong.
Very well said.
bingo - we have a winner - weve already lost the party to lifers who suck off the public teet, and whos biggest concern is re-election.
Sticking to a belief regardless of what others think about it is only a positive attribute IF THE BELIEF IS TRUE.
Reagan was the greatest president of the 20th Century (and possibly ever) because he held firm to the belief that the Soviets should and could be defeated. HE WAS RIGHT.
Tubby Kennedy has held firm for the better part of a half century now that the socialist welfare state he has pushed for will create Utopia. HE IS WRONG.
Rudy, on the other hand, is using the Klintoon approach and modifying his beliefs to suit his audience.
I think that the distinction between 'fiscal' and 'social' conservatives is artificial, but ignoring that for the moment -- what is the point of even HAVING a political party if there is no unity in matters of basic ideology?
Both the far right and the far left want more Government not less interference in the daily lives of people. I am a less government person who believes social issues belong in my home, my church, my community, and my State.
Have you heard Rudy's definition of freedom? "Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it." Does that sound like a "less interference","less government person" to you?
People whining and bitching in corners will be the end of the Republican party, not leaders like RUdy.
If you are going to ait for Newt, pack a big lunch: it's gonna be a while. And maybe never.
Add me to the Rudy ping list.
I refuse to be an "All or Nothing" Conservative.
"I have come to the conclusion that "social conservatives" are not conservative at all."
You're spot on.
I will take a liberal fascist like Rudy any day!
I am excited about the debates in April. Depending on performances in them and the early fundrasing schedule, we could see this thing over much more quickly than expected.
As someone said years ago 'Freerepublic, where political debate is a contact sport'. I'm about as socialy conservative as you're going to meet and I'm saying I could vote for Giuliani. It may take a Giuliani to beat a Clinton.
You and me both!
