Cut & paste: Obama's blunder in attacking America's great friend
The Australian ^ | 15th February 2007

The New York Post slams Democratic senator Barack Obama for his unjustified attack on John Howard

BARACK Obama, all of 25 months removed from the Illinois state legislature, announced his candidacy for the presidency of the US on Saturday, and immediately began trading harsh words with the leader of one of America's oldest and most reliable allies. In the process, the freshman senator revealed truly breathtaking naivete ... Prime Minister John Howard's standing in this debate derives from the fact that Australia once again has troops deployed with US forces in a war zone, as it did in both world wars, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf war and Somalia. Indeed, the notion that Howard is no more than "one of George Bush's allies on the other side of the world" stunningly understates a political, economic and security relationship that extends back to the 19th century, and obtains to this day. That Obama doesn't already know this - and respect it - gives deeper meaning to the term "not ready for prime time".

But it gets worse. Obama then called into question Australia's true commitment to winning in Iraq by noting that while America has upward of 140,000 troops committed to the battle, Canberra has dispatched but 1400. "So if (Howard) is ginned up to fight the good fight in Iraq," Obama said, "I would suggest that he call up another 20,000 Australians and send them to Iraq. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of empty rhetoric."

It shouldn't be necessary to point out that Australia is a nation of but 17 million, and that 1400 soldiers, relatively speaking, is the equivalent of more than 25,000 American troops: more than an entire division. No small thing, in other words.

Australians don't need to explain themselves. We know they are on our side. Obama, on the other hand...

The dims are always cranking about the administration getting our enemies to hate us. At least the administration can avoid getting our friends and allies to hate us. Apparently something the dims aren't capable of

Only in 21st century America could a lightweight like Obama get serious consideration as a candidate for the presidency. He will implode before too long - or more likely, sign on as Hillary's VP.

It's Obama, what do you expect?

He's very "articulate".

I agree with you. Obama is toast, and just doesn't know it yet. If he keeps on messing up like this, he won't even get a VP nod.

Osama Obama isn't worthy to blacken John Howard's boots. And I say that with no racism whatsoever. Osama isn't a black man, he's a white liberal who happens to have a black sperm donor.

A BIG thanks to our friends in Australia!

We could not ask for better friends, that better understand the stakes here.

1400 Australians soldiers are better than 20,000 Osama Obamas.

This guy is politically tone deaf - he also said that the lives of our 3,000 military heroes were "wasted" in Iraq.

Another graduate of the John Kerry Foot in Mouth School of Leadership.

Could you imagine, in World War II, a candidate named Adolf Heiz running for President, who, as a youth, had been a Nazi youth but then moved back to the US. Or a Japanese American who had studied with the Summari named Mutsi Tojo? Never, ever would have happened and someone trying to would have been liucky to simply lose without any votes.

Call it too too judgemental, call it intolerant, call it what you will, but if we elect a guy named Obama Hussein Barak, who studied at a Islamic school as a child, we will be deserving of everything we get. In a time of war with cut throats every bit as committed to killing us and our loved ones and destroying our liberties as the Nazis and Imperial Japanese were, we cannot afford the risk.

This example of Obama's "statesmanship" [/sarcasm] in making light of, villafying, and rancor directed at one of our staunchest allies only futher punctuates the point.

He's very "articulate".

And clean too.

He's got a snowball's chance of getting the Dim nomination. The novelty will wear off sooner rather than later.

"..sign on as Hillary's VP."

That by itself creates a dangerous situation. As much as conservatives dislike Hillary, they may have to pray that nothing happens to her if she gets elected Prez.

The Muslims are willing to die while assasinating their target and she will become a juicy target if her VP is a Muslim.

I remember Krushev beating his shoe on the table at the UN and how schoolchildren were taught to hide under their desks in the event of a nuclear blast during the cold war and how many citizens were anxious about their future.

Somehow I think that we are in worse trouble today than we ever were during the cold war. But not to worry, the stock market is doing OK, we are richer than our parents ever were, there is more TV than we ever had and we only allow the moderate Muslims to immigrate.

I'm afraid that this is another classic case of 'schoolbook brilliant'... Great academic credentials but 'challenged' in the real word.

What makes this type more obnoxious and dangerous is they get used to hearing brilliant and believe it.

The capping glory is that 'brilliant' and 'intelligent' become the ultimate virtue...

If you listen to todays 'intellectual' leftist elite, the pick their 'chosen' to glowing bestow upon them..."He's so brilliant. So intelligent."

Just think of who is brilliant. Both Bill and Hillary, Obama, Mahmoud Ahmadineja, Maureen Doud, Kerry, Frank Rich... the list goes on, and most of them probably have trouble dressing without help.

This proclamation of brilliance has two effects: it picks their chosen ones. More importantly, it also places the crown on themselves. You have to be 'brilliant' to recognize 'brilliance'... Don't cha know?
