TEHRAN, Iran - A bomb explosion killed at least 18 members of Irans elite Revolutionary Guards in southeastern Iran, the state-run news agency reported Wednesday.
A passenger car loaded with explosives stopped in front of their bus near Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchestan Province, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

the apparent target of the attack [AFP]
Eighteen members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards have been killed after a car bomb hit their bus in southeastern Iran.
Qassem Rezaie, a Revolutionary Guard commander, told Iran's official news agency on Wednesday: "In this thoughtless operation, 18 citizens of Zahedan were martyred."
Witnesses in the city of Zahedan said motorcyclists had shot at the bus to force it to stop.
A spokesman in the Zahedan governor's office confirmed the incident but said he was still waiting for figures on the number killed. He said two people had been arrested.
IRNA's correspondent in Zahedan said witnesses saw people placing a booby-trapped car in the path of the bus and detonated the explosives when the bus drew near.

Excerpt -
BAGHDAD, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr is still in Iraq and has not left for Iran, several of his aides said on Wednesday, after American officials suggested he may have departed to avoid an offensive against militants.
The conflicting reports over the anti-American cleric's whereabouts came after Iraq said on Tuesday it would close its borders with Iran and Syria and lengthen a night curfew in Baghdad to try to curb unrelenting violence in the capital.
Four Sadr aides said he was still in Iraq, with some saying he was in the holy Shi'ite city of Najaf but had reduced public appearances for "security reasons". They did not elaborate.
"He is now in Iraq," Nassar al-Rubaei, head of the Sadrist bloc in Iraq's parliament, said without giving further details.

Former Mossad chief: Assassinate Ahmadinejad
Iranian president 'says he wants to die a martyr so he should be sent to heaven,' Meir Amit says
Aaron Klein, WND Published: 02.14.07, 13:33 / Israel News
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad should "be made to disappear from the arena," Meir Amit, a former director of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, advocated in an exclusive interview with WND.
Amit, one of the most esteemed figures in the Israeli intelligence establishment, said while he was director of the Mossad from 1963 to 1968 he regularly argued against the assassination of world leaders. But he said the case of Ahmadinejad is different.
"Ahmadinejad is the pusher of all the Muslim world toward fanaticism and extremism. In his case, he should be made to disappear from the arena. He has said he wants to become a shahid, a martyr, so I think he should get his wish and be sent to heaven," Amit said.
