As we noted here, within minutes of Mitt Romney having announced his candidacy this morning, MSNBC, in the person of Chip Reid, branded him "far right."
David Gregory has now made it a one-two punch. A bit later on MSNBC, Gregory played clips from 1994 of Romney expressing pro-choice and pro-gay rights views. Noting Romney's subsequent change to a pro-life position, Gregory expressed this opinion, in the guise of a question, to his two MSM guests:
"With all respect to Governor Romney, is anybody really going to buy that, buy the timing of that, that that was some genuine change of heart?"
Words don't do justice to the contemptuousness of Gregory's tone. View the video here.
I'll admit to being dubious myself about the timing of Romney's abortion change of heart, which coincided conveniently with his switch from Massachusetts politician to Republian nomination-seeker.
But was it appropriate for Gregory, whom MSNBC bills as chief White House "correspondent," not commentator, to express his personal cynicism in such thinly-veiled manner? His profession of "all respect" to Romney notwithstanding, Gregory couldn't have been much more disrespectful.
Syntax Aside: Note that Gregory managed to pull off the rare feat using the same word, "that," three times in a row -- and doing so grammatically!

David-Gregory's-disdain ping to Today show list.
Does the sumb*tch ever say the same thing about dems when they change their minds?
Romney has surrounded himself with outstanding conservatives. People = policy.
He has also demonstrated that he has the capability to make policy become reality.
I see no other conclusion than to conclude that Romney is the most conservative candidate with a chance to win. (both prongs being important).
I'm ok with it. Abortion is such a heinous act no one who seriously looks into it can be pro-abortion and still claim a soul. Not all pro-lifers started that way. The culture we grew up in just made it seem acceptable. Better he see the light now than never.
No, David Gregory we're not going to buy "that"...Mitt's "evolution". We would prefer Hillary or Barack's devolutionist positions. /sarcasm
I hate to agree with that fag, but I didn't buy Romney's story either. C'mon. Who would? I'm willing to believe he's taken the position now and will act on it to some extent. But I believe for Mitt it's all about Mitt. He's a politician. His lips are moving. 2+2. C'mon people. Turn off the dry ice machines. kill the light show. see these ppl for who they are. eye them ALL with suspicion ALWAYS.
If Gregory is attacking Mitt, all the more reason to support him. Go Mitt, Go!
That's retarded. Imagine a world where you draw your own conclusions. Really. Try.
Pro or against, it really doesn't matter in his role as president. The question that needs to be asked is what Supreme Court Justice is the type he would nominate if he is given the chance? Pro gay rights? If he is, what exactly can he do as president to affect them? Sure he has a veto pen, but ultimately, it's the Congress and the Supreme Court that ultimately make those changes...la
Well many distingushed pro-life advocates have bought it. James Bopp, pro-life advocate and attorney, said that as Governor, Romney consistently pursued pro-life policies and put his money where his mouth is.
" He vetoed the bill providing state funding for embryonic stem cell research, he vetoed a bill that provided for the morning after pill without a prescription because it is an abortifacient, he vetoed legislation which would have redefined Massachusetts longstanding definition of the beginning of human life from fertilization to implantation, and he fought to promote abstinence education in the classroom.
These actions as Governor, and others, have lead leaders of the most important social conservative groups in Massachusetts, including Massachusetts Citizens for Life, Massachusetts Family Institute and the Knights of Columbus, to ....conclude that Romney demonstrat[ed] [his] solid social conservative credentials by undertaking these actions, and has, therefore, proven that he shares our values, as well as our determination to protect them."
David doesn't understand that he is reviled by conservatives. If David doubts Mitt, that enhances Mitt's credibility among conservatives.
Look, if people want to say he's reliably pro life, I'm fine with that. But that doesn't mean I have to buy his load of crapola. Mitt's lookin out for Mitt.
proven that he shares our values, as well as our determination to protect them."
At some point youse gotsta make a choice:
McCain (Media-AZ)
Guiliani (RINO-NY)
Romney (FLIP-MA)
Etc.
Clearly, there is not a unifying candidate yet. Let's bicker. < / early sillies>
What Bopp said was that "leaders of the most important social conservative groups in Massachusetts, including Massachusetts Citizens for Life, Massachusetts Family Institute and the Knights of Columbus, to ....conclude..." etc etc. I grant you that the orgs listed say they think Mitt "shares your values." The dude Bopp never says that himself. He quotes them. They concluded, he said. But whatever. I'm just sayin'. I mean, c'mon.
