Sen. Barack Obama, all of 25 months removed from the Illinois state legislature, announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States on Saturday - and immediately began trading harsh words with the leader of one of America's oldest and most reliable allies.
In the process, the freshman senator revealed truly breathtaking naiveté.
Obama more or less sparked the exchange two weeks ago by introducing legislation mandating a total U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq by March 2008.
The senator is entitled to his views, of course. As is Australian Prime Minister John Howard - who said Sunday that the proposal would have al Qaeda leaders in Iraq "praying as many times as possible" for Obama to be elected president in 2008.
In turn, Obama said he was flattered "that one of George Bush's allies on the other side of the world started attacking me the day after I announced" for president.
Howard's standing in this debate derives from the fact that Australia once again has troops deployed with U.S. forces in a war zone - as it did in both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War and Somalia.
Indeed, the notion that Howard is no more than "one of George Bush's allies on the other side of the world" stunningly understates a political, economic and security relationship that extends back to the 19th century - and obtains to this day.
That Obama doesn't already know this - and respect it - gives deeper meaning to the term "not ready for prime time."
But it gets worse. .................

Who believes what the fawning liberal media has to say about him, to the extent he feels he's ready for prime time. He's not even close ... just another flash in the pan.
To be honest, to me the fact that he is running for President after having just gotten into the Senate suggests arrogance. He really doesn't know how to function at the national level yet.
And Hildabeast has slightly more experience, she finished a fisrt term,
I've read he quit smoking, could be dizzy from that.
He was obviously distracted as a black man . . . Barack can get shot going to the gas station in SE Washington, DC. Of course we don't really know that he goes to gas stations in SE DC.
Yes, please, lets address him as Hussein Obama. He should be proud of his muslem heritage.
It would appear that Obama can give a rousing speech when the words are prepared and practiced. When forced to speak unrehearsed, the true lack of polish appears.
It does not hurt to have the Tribune media being part of the Daley PR machine .
Obama is an empty suit....and one ugly dude.

What I would say and meant to say is that their service hasnt been honored, Mr. Obama told reporters in Nashua, N.H., because our civilian strategy has not honored their courage and bravery, and we have put them in a situation in which it is hard for them to succeed. Gee, and to think he crammed all of this into one single word, "wasted" just yesterday. I guess our troops are only good in situations where it is "easy" to succeed. What a pinhead. |
LOL! They'd better put one on salary.
Hey, I resemble that remark! And I'm looking forward to pulling the lever for the biggest loon on the list.
Bwah hah hah hah hah....
Hussein Obama will continue to display how articulate he is while trying to outdo the Arky Witch.
Obama is the new George McGovern, the perennial type of candidate who appeals to college student idealism, and yet he still tries to get by on media-bequeathed "gravitas".

Sen. Barack Obama, all of 25 months removed from the Illinois state legislature. This guy just really cracks me up. He's bragging about being against the war from the beginning. Before he was even a U.S. Senator. Back when he couldn't even get the time of day from anyone, let alone an intelligence briefing from the CIA, or an interview with anyone from the Pentagon. This guy is touting his voodoo abilities, his clairvoyance and palm reading capabilities. Because he certainly can't convince me he came to any conclusion based upon logic gleaned from known intelligence. This pinhead simply flipped a coin that was anti-war on both sides. What the hell would he be saying today if was a complete success? Would his position of being against this war as an ill conceived project still hold true? Wouldn't his logic based upon exactly nothing still have brought him to the same anti-war conclusion? What if brand new WMDs were found? Would he still have this position? This guy is bragging about his ability to "guess" about matters as important as war. He should be ridiculed and mocked for the idiot he is. |

referred to PM Howard as "Bush's ally", instead of a US ally Bingo, my exact thought when I heard this tripe. Let's say he becomes President. He's already lost a century's old friend in Australia. |
What about Obama's mother and father? It seems strange that we do not see any msm interviews with them. Why not? Inquiring minds want to know about the parents who gave him his values.
