He didn't care if it split the GOP in '06, why should he care about '08.
If he didn't have so many worshipers, the party could unite behind a single candidate. Right now they're all just determined to make sure that candidate is NOT someone who'll secure the borders and enforce our current immigration laws, even if it means supporting the likes of Guiliani.
Personally, I will take no greater satisfaction than when the tables are turned and they have no choice but to get out and vote for THE Republican candidate who completely opposes Bush on both these issues, Duncan Hunter. Must be their worst nightmare.

Months ago, I challenged the anti-Rudy freepers to demonstrate how he turned New York from a cesspool to a veritable paradise by pursuing liberal policies, and guess what, no takers! The change he accomplished in the city I have lived in all my life is nothing short of miraculous! This is one conservative, pro-life Republican who would be very happy to vote for Rudy for President.
He has proven that he can accomplish miracles by pursuing *conservative* policies and I'd love to hear from freepers who could *credibly* argue otherwise!
Either you're mistaken or you're citing a bad poll. About a third of the American electorate will self identify as Republicans but the number who consider themselves to be conservative is much larger. I remember a gallup poll in 2004 had 49% conservative, 19% liberal and the rest 'moderate'.
If you think you are being cute, you are not! There are some of us on here that politics is more than coming on Free Republic and posting. We are also activist, campaign consultants, campaign analysts, and have volunteered more hours than the keyboard warriors can imagine. We have been chased by dogs, told off, threatened to be arrested all because we were passing out literature asking people to vote for Republicans.
Now I come on here and see people like you spamming the same posts. It is not the death of the party of Reagan. The Repubican Party is larger than Ronald Reagan or any other one person. The Republican Party is made up of individuals across a wide spectrum of philosophical ideas. We, as a Party, are not all social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, pro-life, pro-choice, pro-gun, anti-gun, or any other topic you can bring up. We are individuals that can think for ourselves and not walk in lockstep because someone tells us that is how we must believe or we are no longer Repubicans. That is Democrat spin not Republican.
As a lifelong Republican and a Conservative, the Republican Party and Conservatives are far from being on life support no matter who the nominee of this party is and anyone that thinks otherwise doesn't understand Republicans and how hard we fought over the years to gain the majority in the House and Senate along with the White House. We have two new Supreme Court justices that are going to make us proud because of our efforts over the years.
In August 2000, parts of this forum as Mr. Mojo reminded us the other day in a link was so anti-Bush that they were threatening everything because he wasn't a 'true' conservative. I said during those days and will say it again that no one on this forum or anyplace else has a right to judge whether lifelong Republicans that vote and work in all elections are not 'real' Repubicans and the same goes for Republican Conservatives of which I am proud to be called.
I don't believe that social issues belong at the federal level and never have. These are issues for my home, my church, my community, and my state on rare occasions. You don't legislate moral vaues from the right or left because you start down a slippery slope. You have to believe in moral values and pass them on to your children and those around you.
Rudy Giuliani is not a threat to anyone but the terrorists and some of you have him made into this big boogeyman because he dares tell it like it is. You and others are out of touch with America as a whole if you think social conservatives are the #1 group of Republicans.
I have spent the last week asking around my own area what is the #1 issue facing America and to a person they said Iraq and the WOT. When I asked about social issues, the #1 answer was that social issues are not that important in this election when we are facing the enemy.
All of this posturing and threatening to quit the Republican Party or not vote if Rudy is nominated, will force Republicans to reach back out to other groups that have not wanted to vote with us because of the rigid social conservatives and the my way or no way philosophy.
We have a problem with Iran -- huge problem. Does anyone remember Iran-Contra and how we were involved with Iran and that was after the fall of the Shah -- long time after. Does anyone remember how our Marines were killed in Lebanon? What was done after that? We withdrew from Lebanon if you don't know. We have made a lot of mistakes in this Country, but you do not know what lies ahead as a President when you make the decisions. Today we are facing a threat from Iran because for years we did nothing.
Those are real threats to humanity along with the Islamic fundamentalist that want to kill us. That is why I support Rudy Giuliani for President because I believe he will stand up to the terrorists, not negotiate, and will put America First. We need a President that will stand for smaller government, less taxes, and law and order. He has vowed to appoint judges with the philosophy and demeanor of Scalia, Roberts, and Alito. I believe Rudy and will support him in any way I can.
If my support of Rudy causes me to be banned from Free Republic so be it, but I will continue to support him until the day I am told to leave this site. You or no one else on here is going to tell me what I believe and that I am not a Republican Conservative.
By calling us liberals you have no respect. Plain and simple!

Why don't you take this up with Jim Robinson, since I doubt you're speaking for him; he can ask the Freepers who you think should leave to do just that. I'm sure you have a list all ready for him.

Self-described moderates (40%) continue to outnumber those who consider themselves conservatives (33%) or liberals (18%). These numbers have been remarkably stable over more than 30 years. On a decade-by-decade basis, Conservatives grew modestly from 32% in the 1970s to 36% in the 1980s, and 38% in the 1990s. So far in the 2000s they comprise 34% of adults. Liberals have remained constant at 18% and moderates have held the lead with 40% or 41% in each decade.
