Senator Barack Obama of Illinois said Monday that he had misspoken when he suggested that the lives of more than 3,000 American soldiers killed in Iraq had been wasted.
As he arrived in New Hampshire, Mr. Obama said he would absolutely apologize to military families if they were offended by a remark he made in Iowa while criticizing the Bush administrations Iraq policy.
What I would say and meant to say is that their service hasnt been honored, Mr. Obama told reporters in Nashua, N.H., because our civilian strategy has not honored their courage and bravery, and we have put them in a situation in which it is hard for them to succeed.
A New Hampshire reporter asked Mr. Obama whether he regretted the remark, made at a rally on Sunday that we ended up launching a war that should have never been authorized and should have never been waged, and to which we now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted.
Even as I said it, Mr. Obama said Monday, I realized I had misspoken.

It is instructive that his first thought was "troops lives wasted". The apology is just so much BS. If that is your opinion run with it you asshole. Be proud of your observations steeped in decades of policy making experience and military service. Be confident of that deep well of broadbased international problem analysis and solution creation. DO IT YOU EMPTY SUIT PRETTY BOY FRAUD.(oops I think this was an Edwards rant---oh well....)
If Ronald Reagan had said that, the front page of the Times would have had in big, black letters "Gaffe." Well, since this guy's no Ronald Reagan and a liberal, I suppose they can just sweep the filthy little statement under the rug.
Okay, I know I'm as dense as a brick. Please explain "their service has not been honored" to me. We have two young men in our family that are in the military. Their service will not be honored if this country elects any of these traitorous weasels to be POTUS.
Self-destruct mode engaged. Countdown in progress.
How many times have Gore, Clinton, and Kerry had to "restructure" remarks? Welcome to the club of liberal hoof-in-mouth disease, Barack.
Not sure about Afghanistan. The dems seems to not be able to find anything bad about that war. Iraq appears to be their thorn in the side.
Typical liberal, can't stand by what he really feels.
What a dishonorable coward.
A CIC he is not.
Actually about three years ago on Thanksgiving, Senator Clinton went there to spend it with the troops and attacked the war and told the troops Americans were getting wary of their mission there and losing confidence in it.
You are right, he might as well go with it now and my bet is next week he will after his people see how the remark is taken. I am guessing that the only organizations to pay any attention to his statement will be Fox and talk radio anyhow.
Just give them an open mic. "Oppose the war, support the troops." An impossible mental contortion, even harder to pull off when your "base" never showers while your financial backers (Hollywood) demand form over substance.
Your family men will not be dishonored if FR has anything to do with 2008.
Ms Sunshine strikes again. Somebody has to do a psych eval on that woman. She's just not presidential material.
LOL.
John Kerry Jr.
A political amateur in search of power. It should be a humbling experience; of course, for Liberals like Obama; it is just a matter of finding the right excuse.
'Restructures'.......good one. The NYT thesaurus must be red hot from all the use in finding words to excuse all the gaffs of their favorite Dems!
Parts of him, anyway. She has to bat at them every now and then.
Sort of like a deer salt-lick.
