Culture Warrior (Don't write off Giuliani's appeal to social conservatives)

The book on Rudy Giuliani is that he is too liberal on social issues to win the Republican presidential nomination. Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, put it succinctly: "I don't see anyone getting the Republican nomination who is not pro-life and a staunch defender of traditional marriage."
But Mr. Giuliani is running strong in Iowa and New Hampshire polls and leading most national surveys of Republicans. He's charming crowds of conservatives everywhere he goes. So it's worth wondering if Mr. Perkins is missing an undercurrent coursing through conservative politics.
Republicans have just experienced a bruising midterm election defeat. The president is suffering dismal approval ratings, and its erstwhile front-runner for the presidential nomination, Sen. John McCain, made his national reputation as a "maverick." The Giuliani rise evident now may be more than name recognition and residual support from his stalwart leadership following the Sept. 11 attacks. Mr. Giuliani's support may also arise from his having successfully moved an entrenched political culture in New York City, something national Republicans have not been able to do in Washington.

We will have to see, this race has just started and it may turn out that you are right on all points.
I'm firm on my belief about Hillary and her nature but all else is still out in the wind right now. I too am from the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia, but way up north. One of the Kalifornia Witches will be retiring in a few years. Arnold will be looking for another job and neither one of them can beat him. Which ever one he runs against will retire rather than suffer the political humiliation of losing to Arney. Another RINO!!!!! Kind of like a Kennedy Light in hollyweird drag.....

If you "think" that that is "the perfect response", then you've got a lot of problems. I do hope that you get help.
To: babygene
You apparently don't care for facts at all.
Neither do you seem to care about much of anything; least of all reality.
To: Al Simmons
The bottom tier will be out a year from now or sooner.

You make it seem so simple, it's not. Some prostate cancers attack the body at a high rate and spread like wildfire. The surgery and after surgery treatment have to be very aggressive and can put you at deaths door. I've watched many go through it and it ain't easy, quick, or fun, and still some won't make it two years.

Who do you guys think the top five repub candidates are?
To: babygene
You know NOTHING at all about prostate cancer. Do you even get a yearly blood test?
Most good surgeons, today, who specialize in this area, are so skilled that there is no need to take Viagra and there is also no incontinence.
Rudy chose to go the "seeds" route. That is NOT a one time thing; it's a SERIES of implantation/visits. It's like chemo and causes weakness, nausea, and some incapacitation.
Did you want Rudy flying all over N.Y. state and debating Hillary, in such a state? Wouldn't it have been a laugh riot, to see Rudy vomit or collapse on stage? /s
It would behoove you to NOT talk about things you know nothing at all about and look like a fool.
To: babygene
You get your prostate removed and take Viagra, or you get a radioactive thingie inserted. Takes 6 hours. Why drop out of a race for senator for that, unless you are a looser...
Guess what - Rudy doesn't think like you! Thank God he has his priorities in order. Seems like you are for national healthcare, also, saying everyone should do it "your way" or they are a looser.

"You apparently don't care for facts at all."
Sounds like you are running out of steam. If you have prostate cancer, we'll understand it if you drop out...

"If I am a "LIB", then so was Ronald Reagan."
That's enough! After your continuous, monotonous, inane, liberal postings, comparing yourself to Ronald Reagan is enough to stimulate the gag reflex.
You certainly don't appreciate that FR is a CONSERVATIVE forum. You are obviously not at home here and might be more comfortable on a forum with more people of your kind i.e. liberals.
Good Night
To: nopardons
nopardons, I agree with you but we can disagree and educate each other without the personal attacks and name calling. I know you aren't the only one so lets just leave it and go on with the discussion.
Who are the top 5?
To: babygene
It would be impossible for me to ever get prostate cancer and to use it as a slam, is disgusting!
How old are you; 3?
To: Prokopton
I'm just as conservative as Reagan and I've been here longer than you. I'm right at home here. :-)

Been there, done that, I went through the same thing with the "seed". What, you thought I was thirty?

100% so far...
That's why you can state - your posts show you aren't up to this. 100% correct.
I still stand by my left comment.

As a cancer survivor I fully understand how it takes over your life. It is usually a matter of life and death either in reality or at least in the mind of the cancer victim. You quickly turn your life to loved ones and fighting your cancer.

Some social conservatives might vote for Giuliani on account of his strong stance on the conflict in Iraq and against islamofascism in general. Personally, vote for a pro-lifer Christian (all Christians should be pro-life, not all pro-lifers are Christian) foremost. If Giuliani is not pro-life, then he doesn't get the vote--plain and simple. In California, so the 54 or so state votes are probably going to the Democrats anyway.

What, like appointing almost all Dems to the bench? Could he have gotten conservative judges appointed in that city? I don't particularly understand this argument from the anti-Rudy camp. If anyone knows how things actually work in NYC, the judicial candidates were (unfortunately) cross-endorsed by all major political parties. They are elected officials in the lower court system. I don't even think the mayor makes many, if any appointments to the bench.
The governor does most of the appointing to the Supreme Court (lower state court) in case of vacancy. If Rudy had powers to appoint city court judges (e.g. small claims an misdemeanors) and appointed a judge, using logic, Rudy also "appointed" all Republican judges too given that they were all cross-endorsed.

Now for my most non P'C comment of the day. We are starting to sound like a bunch of victims standing around the corner liquor store arguing about who is blacker,,,,, Now I think that is funny.....
