A Hamas spokesman has reiterated that the new Hamas-led coalition government will neither recognize Israel nor stop terror. According to Hamas spokesman Mushir Al-Masri, Hamas interprets the Mecca agreement to mean that the Arab and Islamic worlds have accepted them as they are, and that "international legitimization" will follow.

The following are excerpts from the article:

Hamas movement spokesman, Mushir Al-Masri, said: "Hamas remains as it is: following its principles. It did not retreat, but advanced forward." He confirmed that it will not recognize Israel, will not abandon the resistance [i.e. terror] and will not discard its principles." He further said: "The Hamas [that existed] prior to the government, is Hamas of the government. Hamas prior to the unity [government] is Hamas after the unity."

This was said during a rally organized yesterday by the Islamic University student council, as part of a series of activities of identification with the university. Thousands of university students and a group of representatives from the Legislative Council and ministers participated in the rally.Al-Masri added: "Hamas received national legitimization through the gathering of masses around it and around the option of resistance [i.e., terror] and received legislative legitimization through its victory in the Legislative Council elections. It now received Arab and Islamic legitimization and will receive international legitimization." [Al-Ayyam, February 12, 2007]

("Moderate"?) Fatah Al-Aqsa Brigades celebrates Mecca Agreement by announcing new rocket operation against Israel

Al-Aqsa Brigades launch new projectile-launching operation, codenamed 'Call of Al-Aqsa'

Gaza - Ma'an - The Al-Aqsa Brigades, the main military wing of Fatah, announced on Monday a new codename for their projectile-launching operations against Israeli towns. Reportedly in retaliation for the Israeli "aggressions" on the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, the new codename is 'The Call of Al Aqsa'.

In a statement issued Monday, the brigades announced a general alert inside and outside Palestine. They said that they will attack the enemy everywhere. They also warned that hundreds of allegedly developed projectiles, called 'Al-Aqsa 103' projectiles, will be launched against Israel.

The statement called upon the coming unity government to adopt "loud and clear" the choice of resistance. The brigades also urged all the factions to return to the choice of resistance and confront the occupation.

The brigades announced earlier on Monday morning that they had launched three homemade projectiles at the southern Israeli town of Sderot.

Amazing what $1 billion from the Saudis can accomplish.

Tomorrow the State Dept. will be announcing a breakthrough.

Hamas, Fatah, Hizbollah, they're all on the same page.

Hamas and Fatah figure, not without justification, that the louder they voice (and act on) their terrorist aims the more likely it is that the U.S. will bend over backwards and give the Pali squatters a terrorst state in Israel's backyard.

A Hamas spokesman has reiterated that the new Hamas-led coalition government will neither recognize Israel nor stop terror.

Well, there you have it. Open admissions.

The Israeli government should issue the following statement:

In light of the recent announcement by Hamas, the government of Israel announces the following policy statement. Terrorism by anyone from the Palestinian areas will be treated as an act of war against the state of Israel and will be responded to abjectly, swiftly, and devestatingly. In addition, and new doctrine, called the Golan Doctrine, will be applied by the Israeli government regarding terror attacks starting immediately. It is this:

For each terror attack against Israel originiating, planned, or abetted in any way out of the Palestinian territories, the border between Israel and those territories will be advanced one kilometer for each attack, with the Palestinian population being moved back by the corresponding distance for each attack. The new lands will be considered henceforth and forever Israeli soveriegn soil.

This policy will hold until all terror attacks originating, planned, or abetted out of the Palestinian territories have ceased for a period of 24 continuous months, or until there is no more Palestinain territory, whichever comes first. The oweness is on the Palestinian people to bring to justice those who are harming their statehood aspirations.

Now THAT'S a new twist from the historic peace initiatives of the past few decades. /s

Won't happen. The world wouldn't tolerate it, the US would be out front in condemnation.

Though not popular on FR, I suspect Sharon had the right idea. Recognize there's no "peace partner" to negotiante with, leave Gaza, draw a line in the West Bank and withdraw behind it, establish borders unilaterally, and defend them as a nation does against a hostile foe.

Of course given the attacks eminating from Gaza, unanswered, that course requires a stronger leader than Ohlmert.

Occupying a defensive zone, as Israel has done in the past in Lebanon, and as she should do in northern/northwestern Gaza to protect Sderot, that makes sense. The palestinians can always negotiate for that when they become peaceful. And reopening the Erez Industrial Park in northern Gaza would provide thousands of palestinian jobs. A casino in north Gaza, as Sharon's buddies planned, would provide more. If the security strip is wide enough, we could see Trump Towers, Gaza.

With the seafront they have in Gaza, the opportunities are endless.

It's honest. And they know the west will ignore it.

If Israel wants peace, and wants to be secure...sooner or later they are going to have to stop taking half measures and playing footsies with the very enemies who want to see them destroyed...and my guesss is, that they will have to do so against so-called "World Opinion".

We did so in Iraq and it was the right thing to do despite the ravings of the fundamental Islamics, the lunatic left, and all of their abettors. In fact, the very measure of the volume of their shrill noise tells us that we are spot on target IMHO.

They will have to go against world opinion, and State Dept opinion. But the last thing they need is a couple million muslim radicals. Draw the line based on the location of settlements, and security considerations (in 67 the joint chiefs said that would be about half of the West Bank, along with Gaza and the northern Sinai), go forward, and endure the critism which would result.
