Correct interpretation of that is "thou shalt not murder", in the original language. There is a big difference between the two.

Thou shalt not kill.In the original language it came out as Thou shalt not commit murder. Even Jesus recognized the necessity for arms and even for conducting warfare. When he addressed Roman centurions, he never chastised them for being warriors, he only admonished them not to take advantage of their authority over the people. There is even the quote from the new testament about keeping burglars from the home by being strongly armed. AND the directive to Paul on the road to Damascus to sell his cloak and buy a sword for protection on the journey.

you do realize ndt that those 'commandments' were commandments to ober the SECULAR laws that were already in place, right? Yeah, man's laws' often bring about a 'better society' like increased diseases due to the 'freedoms' of sexual experimentation, increased drug use- more laws that protect the criminals and criminalize the victims, frivelous lawsuits that ruin businesses, forcing churches to disobey God, on and on it goes- good point.

Not according to Jesus in Mark 7 where he clearly identifies it as commandment of God. But I'm sure you know better then he.
And he said to them[the Pharisees]: "You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions! 10For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,'[d] and, 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.'"
