Correct interpretation of that is "thou shalt not murder", in the original language. There is a big difference between the two.

In the original language it came out as Thou shalt not commit murder. Even Jesus recognized the necessity for arms and even for conducting warfare. When he addressed Roman centurions, he never chastised them for being warriors, he only admonished them not to take advantage of their authority over the people. There is even the quote from the new testament about keeping burglars from the home by being strongly armed. AND the directive to Paul on the road to Damascus to sell his cloak and buy a sword for protection on the journey.

Not according to Jesus in Mark 7 where he clearly identifies it as commandment of God. But I'm sure you know better then he.
