My Spiritual Journey
Time ^ | Oct. 16, 2006 | BARACK OBAMA

Monday, Oct. 16, 2006 My Spiritual Journey By Barack Obama

Two days after I won the democratic nomination in my U.S. Senate race, I received an email from a doctor at the University of Chicago Medical School.

"Congratulations on your overwhelming and inspiring primary win," the doctor wrote. "I was happy to vote for you, and I will tell you that I am seriously considering voting for you in the general election. I write to express my concerns that may, in the end, prevent me from supporting you."

The doctor described himself as a Christian who understood his commitments to be comprehensive and "totalizing." His faith led him to strongly oppose abortion and gay marriage, but he said his faith also led him to question the idolatry of the free market and the quick resort to militarism that seemed to characterize much of President Bush's foreign policy.

More crap in the MSM. We buy what the MSM is selling at our peril. I'm sure this will go over well with the Oprahfied sheep in the American herd, though.

If you buy this:

I told him I understood his position but had to disagree with it. I explained my belief that few women made the decision to terminate a pregnancy casually; that any pregnant woman felt the full force of the moral issues involved and wrestled with her conscience when making that decision; that I feared a ban on abortion would force women to seek unsafe abortions, as they had once done in this country. I suggested that perhaps we could agree on ways to reduce the number of women who felt the need to have abortions in the first place.

How about this:

I told him I understood his position but had to disagree with it. I explained my belief that few men made the decision to rape a woman casually; that any horny man felt the full force of the moral issues involved and wrestled with his conscience when making that decision; that I feared a ban on rape would force men to seek unsafe liaisons, as they had once done in this country. I suggested that perhaps we could agree on ways to reduce the number of men who felt the need to rape in the first place.

Until you've walked in the boots of that weird guy at the bar who can't even get the fat drunk chicks to give him the time of day, you can't have an opinion on his decision to rape.

Note to Osama Obama: I find it funny beyond words that when people of your ilk speak of having finished a "spiritual journey" that journey *always* ends with a decision to run for the Presidency.

Here is my thought on the "need" for "safe abortion". Why do people who are in the process of 1st degree murder need a safe work environment? As far as I can tell, committing a homicide always carries the risk of death or serious injury to the perpetrator. Lowering this risk only encourages the homicidal behavior. Shouldn't our aim be to increase the risks associated with attempted murder?

Furthermore, how in the world can a "procedure" be characterized as "safe" when there is a %50 human mortality rate every time it is performed?

"...the idolatry of the free market..."

I wonder what that loaded phrase is supposed to mean?

Words do mean things.

Yes, and to a leftist, they mean lots of different things, depending on what they want at the time.

When Osama parts the Red sea and feeds the multitudes with a few loaves and fishes, then call me.

Unfortunately, that may not be far off the way the MSM is building up and slobbering over this lightweight.

I checked my website and found the offending words. They were not my own; my staff had posted them to summarize my pro-choice position during the Democratic primary, at a time when some of my opponents were questioning my commitment to protect Roe v. Wade. Within the bubble of Democratic Party politics, this was standard boilerplate, designed to fire up the base. The notion of engaging the other side on the issue was pointless, the argument went; any ambiguity on the issue implied weakness.

How are we to interpret this? Does it mean he has no principles? Does it mean that he's a puppet of public opinion's strings? Does it mean he can't even control his own web site? I can't think of a good way, unless "I'll do what it takes to win" is good in this context.
