Obama's first salvo targets Hillary Clinton
The Daily Telegraph ^ | February 12, 2007 | Toby Harnden

Senator Barack Obama yesterday launched his toughest attack yet on his rival Hillary Clinton, blasting her for backing the "tragic mistake" of the Iraq war and voting to give President George W Bush a green light from Congress.

"It should never have been authorised," he said in Ames, Iowa, where he was campaigning the day after he announced he was running for the White House. "Even at the time, it was possible to make judgments that this would not work well.

"I feel good about the fact that my judgment was we shouldn't be proceeding and I think that speaks hopefully to the kind of judgment I'll be bringing to the office of president."

Mrs Clinton, he charged, was also vague about how she would end the war beyond promising to bring it to a close if she were elected. "How she wants to accomplish that, I'm not clear."

Mr Obama, 45, who has been criticised by the Clinton camp for a lack of experience, showed that he was not going to let his main opponents off the hook.

Both the front runner Mrs Clinton, 59, and John Edwards, 53, running a strong third in polls, were among senators who authorised the war in 2002 but have since modified their positions. At rally after rally in Iowa, Mr Obama slammed the "senseless" and "ill-conceived" war to huge applause.

Mrs Clinton, campaigning in New Hampshire at the same time, had to field hostile questions about her vote from disgruntled Democrats. Mr Obama also took Mrs Clinton's early campaign slogan of "I'm in it to win it" to suggest she was interested only in getting elected.

"I am in it to win it," he said, responding to calls from a Davenport crowd. "Hold on. But I want you to understand that I'm also I'm in it to transform the country."

At a breakfast in Iowa Falls, he appeared to take another shot at Mrs Clinton, who is often accused of excessive ambition. "I'm not one of those people who decided at the age of seven that I wanted to be president."

Mr Obama, increasingly confident of his ground on foreign policy, ridiculed John Howard, the Australian premier, for criticising his plan to pull US troops out of Iraq by March next year.

"I think it's flattering that one of George Bush's allies on the other side of the world started attacking me the day after I announced," he said.

"I would also note that we have close to 140,000 troops in Iraq, and my understanding is Mr Howard has deployed 1,400, so if he is... to fight the good fight in Iraq, I would suggest that he calls up another 20,000 Australians and sends them to Iraq.

"Otherwise it's just a bunch of empty rhetoric."

Yup ....And then he went and attacked Hillary for wanting to be president from the age of 7 yrs old. It just amuses me how they attack each other & don't do their homework. Made him look a foolish to me. I knew I had read it in the past & I just couldn't find the link....when I did it wouldn't work but I found one that did.

If I had a bucket of Holy Water and the time to do it, I'd be tempted to douse the Democrat contenders and shout "The Power of Christ Compels You! The Power of Christ Compels You!" at them. It's like Satan has his arms wrapped around the lot.

Soldiers--enlisted and officers--would quit the service when their time is up.

I've already made that decision. If any RAT is elected in 08, I WILL NOT re-up the following June.

If Hillary does NOT destroy him, I'll know they are some how in cahoots with each other. She will NEVER have him as VP....UNLESS....the media names him as her pick and she can't back out of it....this is what happened to Joe Lieberman, I believe...the media annouced Joe the VP candidate and Gore couldn;t back out without looking like an anti-Semite!!

Ivan, Obama stands very little chance of being the Dem nominee. Each Presidential cycle the Dems must include a token black candidate to reward and energize its most loyal constituency, which votes over 90% for their nominee. If he makes a credible showing, Obama may be considered for VP. It is going to be a coronation for Hillary except if Al Gore were to enter the race. Obama represents no threat to Hillary. In fact, Hillary does better among blacks than Obama.

As ever, follow the money. If big name donors move Obama's way, start taking him seriously. I believe this is starting to happen.

Of course Democrats are brain damaged - which is to our benefit - if they were truly serious about winning office, they'd have a Richardson / Breseden ticket: a ticket that breathes reassurance rather than radicalism.

Right now if I had to guess I'd say Edwards is the favorite to get the nomination. If Gore jumps in, who knows? It's becoming clearer that Shrillary is wearing out her welcome in the Rat party.

Hillary may not be able to destroy him. Obama has very little of a history to discuss - his scandals are already known, the Hussein business went nowhere. Furthermore, she had no reason to get his FBI file when she was in the East Wing.

No, if there is something she can use against him, she will. I just think it's going to be more difficult for her than usual. There's a practical limit, even to slime.

At what age was Obama living in the middle east and going to a muslim school? Surely that wasn't when he declared he wanted to be president. I guess the muslim upbringing is the thing that bothers me the most about him.

Hillary can out fund raise Obama ten to one. She is a lock. Obama is a MSM manufactured candidate in much the same way that Howard Dean was. The MSM would like to make the Dem primary into something that will attract the public's interest and the candidates' ad money. Although some Dems are concerned about Hillary's electability and high negatives, the smart money is still on Hillary who is head and shoulders above the other Dem candidates who have declared for the race.

Of course Democrats are brain damaged - which is to our benefit - if they were truly serious about winning office, they'd have a Richardson / Breseden ticket: a ticket that breathes reassurance rather than radicalism.

Richardson could very well be the VP candidate. Richardson is a Hispanic, the largest and fastest growing minority in the country. Breseden???? The Governor of TN? I think HIllary would choose Wesley Clark before him.

If the Iraq war is still an issue, the Dems will be the odds on favorite to take the WH regardless of who is nominated.

The link I posted at #14 will give you information . From what I can tell he was in school in kindergarten in Indonesia . Read the links they explain it better then I can. Read post #38....... Theres quite a bit of info there. The Muslim upbringing should bother us...I don't want any ties to an ex Muslim or a Muslim as our President.

It's his obvious attack. But I think he's going to peak too early. And she will have more money than God to campaign with.

I don't believe that question is worth pursuing. It's going to be seen as evidence of bigotry amongst conservatives if too much fuss is made of it.

What should be made clear is that Obama is an inexperienced moonbat.

Right.

At age 7 you were going to a Muslim school in Indonesia, with a student ID card that identified you as "Barry Soetero, Muslim"
