Three girls who were imprisoned by their mother in a house of indescribable filth for seven years may never recover from the ordeal, experts said last night.

The girls were shut away from the outside world, existing in almost complete darkness, playing only with mice and communicating in their own language.

When they were discovered, their home in a smart, upper middle-class suburb had no running water and was filled with waste and excrement a meter high. The floor was corroded by mice urine.

Also the fact that the legal system kept the father away for 7 years. That certainly helped.

How could dad have not had ANY access to the kids? Doesn't make sense.

Of course it does. It happens all the time. Fathers are frequently denied any access to their children, even if they faithfully pay child support. The courts will rarely force the mother to permit access.

No, it doesn't make sense. It still happens all the time.

Prayers for the girls' recovery, regardless of what the experts say...

Methinks you are absolutely correct my FRiend.

Only a truly demonic person could perpetrate such evil upon any child, let alone their very own children.

And the most outrageous detail of this sad story?

According to the article, the female biological parental unit (because she is NO 'mother') faces only between 5 months and 5 years as a sentence.

Of course they're going to employ the 'not guilty by reason of insanity' defense, and hapless jurors will buy it, and some dumb-ass judge will sign off on it.

I pray for those children.

Her husband, a local judge in Linz, Upper Austria, named only as Andreas M, was not allowed to see them once, despite his claims for access reaching court nine times.

Screw the courts, the father failed in his duty to protect his daughters. Oh, yeah, and the judge(s) who denied the father his parental duties/rights and allowed the abuse of these girls should be horsewhipped, locked in a small box and thrown in a sewer.

Oh, yeah, I'm a bit intolerant of child abuse and enabling judges.

Okay, let's put it this way. What kind of a jackass mother/court system would deny a child access to their father unless he was abusive? A father has just as much right to his children as a mother does. To deny them contact is cruel and senseless. Sorry, I just don't get it.

Thank you for clearing that up.

Could you say it louder for the hearing impaired?

There is nothing to indicate that the perp is anything but an Austrian, much less a Brit.

The only connection to Britain discernible fom the article is that it was published in a British newspaper.

No, the headline says "Daughters Struggling After Mom Locked Them Away for 7 Years".

I believe it's the selfsame headline I saw in The Times earlier tonight.

< bitter laughter> Of course a father has just as much right to his children as a mother does. And of course to deny them contact is cruel and senseless. The West generally has a cruel and senseless family court system. Ask any divorced father. That's the way it is. It is a wildly unjust "justice" system horribly biased against men. I say that as a woman. This travesty took place in Austria but it's no different here.
