Giuliani: Gun control helped lower crime
Rudy Giuliani addressed a potentially troublesome issue with conservative voters, saying his policies as mayor to get handguns off the street helped reduce crime in New York.
"I used gun control as mayor," he said at a news conference Saturday during a swing through California. But "I understand the Second Amendment. I understand the right to bear arms."
He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.
Addressing another potential trouble spot with conservatives, Giuliani spoke in favor of a border fence, saying, "You have to have secure borders, you have to have a fence, and the fence I think has to be a highly technological one."
The nation needs to know, he said, who is coming into the country and why. But he provided scant details on how he would deal with illegal immigrants already in the country. Citizens, he added, should be able to read and write English.
Giuliani was to make an address Monday in Silicon Valley and he was to appear Tuesday at an agricultural fair in the Central Valley.
Asked when he would make a formal announcement that he is a candidate for the Republican nomination, Giuliani said: "Well, formally announce? I don't know."

I am sorry to note that our good friend and Rudybot, AnkleOfRepose, is no more.
Alas, alas. We hardly knew ye.
What would be the point with that? LIB VERSES LIB LITE
Can you imagine a mayor in New York City passing city ordinances which restricted speech by certain groups like FALN or MALDEF because it helped keep the peace? Of course not, because no city or state is allowed to amend or qualify your rights under the constitution (unless its the Second Amendment, the one which doesn't really apply like all of the other ones because people don't really understand what the Founding Fathers were trying to do and the term 'keep and bear arms' is just vague language.....blah, blah, blah)
I wouldn't trust Rudy with my rights to keep and bear arms any more than I would trust Hillary or Obama. To them, I am an inconvenience - a law abiding gun owner.
You can do as you damn well please.
1. I am NOT a slave of the party.
2. Guilliani would be a good reason to stay home on election day.
You need to lay off the crack.JMO
So, does anyone out there think that if Giuliani gets the nod for the 'R' endorsement we won't have another krinton presidency?
The Demrats and Commie Hitlery HAVE to be defeated!
Rudy is the lesser of two evils.
Dang. Sometimes we get to mock and humiliate them a little longer...
Yeah. It's on par with the 'toon's, "Freedom is the ability to pick your rulers", and "people have too much freedom." LOL! These guys kill me.
Gun Control?
That's two to the chest, one to the head isn't it?
Anyone who wants to know what I REALLY think, don't bother asking; just use your imagination.
Exactly. Giuliani appointed Bill Bratton to NYPD Police Commissioner. Bratton improved the crime tracking system and had so much success reducing crime in NYC that Los Angeles later hired him as Police Chief.
"Broken windows" policies, strong law enforcement, criminal prosecutions, jail sentences, and decreases in nationwide crime also helped reduce crime in NYC.
I have a bumper stickier on my truck that say...
GUN CONTROL
Hitting your intended target
Rudi has consistantly been anti-gun throughout his whole career. Of course his gun policies didn't effect hunting...there is VERY LITTLE gun hunting for game in New York City!! Probably not the same for citizens.
Do we see a flop flipping in Rudi's future?
Ha, I dont think there would be any difference in scotus nominations
I love Rudy but this is wrong on so many levels.
Well said. You are absolutely right!!!!!
It's too early to settle for warts and pimples. I'd rather settle for roast beef and salad.
Wait and see. Someone that appears to have no chance now, may have a big chance in another year.
The democratic traitors are center stage in power at the moment, sooner or later, they must take responsibility.
