Giuliani: Gun control helped lower crime

Rudy Giuliani addressed a potentially troublesome issue with conservative voters, saying his policies as mayor to get handguns off the street helped reduce crime in New York.

"I used gun control as mayor," he said at a news conference Saturday during a swing through California. But "I understand the Second Amendment. I understand the right to bear arms."

He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

Addressing another potential trouble spot with conservatives, Giuliani spoke in favor of a border fence, saying, "You have to have secure borders, you have to have a fence, and the fence I think has to be a highly technological one."

The nation needs to know, he said, who is coming into the country and why. But he provided scant details on how he would deal with illegal immigrants already in the country. Citizens, he added, should be able to read and write English.

Giuliani was to make an address Monday in Silicon Valley and he was to appear Tuesday at an agricultural fair in the Central Valley.

Asked when he would make a formal announcement that he is a candidate for the Republican nomination, Giuliani said: "Well, formally announce? I don't know."

-So you think Rudy has a lock on the RNC, do you?-

He better have a lock on the RNC. As I noted previously this election is about stopping Hillary. The candidate most likely to achieve that objective is the most logical choice. Rudy Giuliani, warts and all, is the person most likely to achieve the objective.

Think Giuliani's postion on guns is bad?...Imagine what Hillary's position would be.

His victory will be similar to Reagans second election landslide.

Is what you're taking prescription or did you buy it from a guy in a van?

Another nitwit politician that doesn't get it. In the mayor's world when someone gets a gun they automatically want to commit a crime.

ANY politician that equates the second amendment with hunting is a lying POS.

I will NOT be voting for Guliani!!!

We need comparable charts like that one for each of the candidates -- both parties.

Well we might not like it, but he is right. In NYC, that was the case.

Correlation does not equal causation.

I hope not. Rudy has left the impression of being scared of Hillary and he would be a disaster when it comes to national security.

Who gives a shit about "hunting"? We want guns for self-defense. I am so sick of this "hunting" nonsense. That is not what the 2nd Amendment is all about.

Hmm. Sounds an awful lot like Chertoff's silly "virtual" fence.

" I'd wait for the transcript. I'm getting the impression the MSM hates Giuliani,"

He's been an unrepentant gun grabber all his life. Here he is on Freedom.

You have a choice, vote Giuliani or say hello to a second Clinton presidency. So what's it gonna be?

Welcome to FR. I like your proven Anybody But Hillary strategy -- after all, it worked so well for Kerry's Anybody But Bush crowd in 2004. /s

"As I noted previously this election is about stopping Hillary."

Trying to get people to vote against the other candidate as opposed to voting for the candidate doesn't work. There is a large contingent of conservatives who simply will not vote for a gungrabing, pro choice candidate.

Question: If what Rudy says is true, then why is it we see statistics for crime decrease in states where CC laws are present?

Answer: Rudy is a liberal if he is a moderate. The liberal definition of gun control is removing them from the hands of law abiding citizens. Criminals love gun control, because they are NOT law abiding. In New York, if you want to carry a fire arm, and correct me if I'm wrong, you have to justify it by indicating you are in physical danger as well as carrying large sums of money for one reason or another.

Synopsis: Rudy is not the answer - nor should he hold the office of President, because he and a liberal congress will attempt to strip us of our rights to protect life, limb, and personal happiness.

That has been the historical trend. Republican presidents become more conservative at 1600 Penn Ave while Democrats become more liberal after taking up residence in the WH.

Huh? The last two presidents have performed in the exact opposite fashion to that statement.

The feds have consistently interpreted "regulate" to encompass "ban."

Which is what Giuliani was saying; that you can't ban guns, you can only regulate them, and any such regulation must be consistent with the Second Amendment which allows people to keep and bear arms.
