Giuliani Strikes a Note With California GOP Testing the Waters, Former N.Y. Mayor Garners 4 Ovations
SACRAMENTO, Feb. 10 -- Rudolph W. Giuliani came west to learn whether his brand of Republican politics has a chance among party members significantly more conservative than himself. By the time he had received a fourth standing ovation Saturday at the California Republican Party convention, the answer seemed clear.
Equating the U.S. fight against terrorism with the Civil War and the Cold War, Giuliani told about 750 of his party's faithful that failure in Iraq would turn that country into a "massive headquarters for terrorism."
"Having had a job where I didn't have any choice but to make a decision," the former mayor of New York said, "prepares you as best you can be prepared to be the president of the United States."

Oh brother. If they had a straw poll at this convention he'd get his clock cleaned. The room was packed with establishment socialites and starry-eyed teens but only a small sampling of actual voting delegates. The conservative activists are busy working behind the scenes and in the halls, on a contested race for vice chairman that will be voted on Sunday. This Giuliani thing is nothing more than a sideshow attraction this weekend.
please add me to the Rudy List...Texas is supporting Rudy :)
Done.
Welcome to the Rudy Ping List!!!
Im pro-choice. Im pro-gay rights, Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. No, I have not supported that, and I dont see my position on that changing, he responded. RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY: I'm pro- choice. I'm pro-gay rights.KING: Giuliani supports a woman's right to an abortion, and back in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.
GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing.
KING: Immigration could be another presidential landmine. Back in 1996, Mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.
JEFFREY: He took the side of illegal immigrants in New York City against the Republican Congress.
KING: Giuliani opposes same-sex marriage but as mayor, he supported civil unions and extending health and other benefits to gay couples. He also supported the assault weapons ban and other gun control measures opposed by the National Rifle Association.
GIULIANI: I'm in favor of gun control. I'm pro-choice.
Republican Big-Wigs Support Pro-Abortion Event in NY
Pro-abortion Governor George Pataki and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also supports unrestricted abortion, are co-chairs of the 2000 Choice Award Presentation to be held on May 30 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The event is sponsored by the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that is campaigning for the removal of the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform.

How does it bother me? I have no problem with Giuliani's social liberalism on some issues because his fiscal/national security/and socially conservative on other issues far outweighs the former.
What is your point? California Republicans are among the most conservative in the nation.
That's California for ya. They lov their RINOs.
Then why does the chart bother you?
You have been added to the ping list. We are triple teaming the list so one of us will usually be available. We have eastern, central, and western time zones covered! :)
Some people on this site would rather have someone who is at war with abortion doctors than jihadists.
Try this and honestly rate any of the Republican candidates in the hunt against Hillary or Obama.... They all win hands down! Especially on National Defense and understanding the threat is the Islamo-fascist. If you don't see that you're Stevie Wonder blind.
Everybody has their rank order, but here is mine. Compare any of the REP's against the RAT's.
No ovation from this conservative! Duncan Hunter for '08.
Because your chart is redundant and a waste of bandwidth. Rudy supporters know about his social liberal past, yet we still support him.
Try posting positively about your candidate, if he's not in Congress bloviating instead of advancing conservatism.
4 Standing Ovations
Brooklyn Museum Art Controversy
In 1999 Giuliani threatened to cut off city funding for the Brooklyn Museum if the museum did not remove a number of works in an exhibit entitled Sensation: Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection. One work in particular, The Holy Virgin Mary by Turner Prize winning-artist Chris Ofili (a Catholic himself), featured the Virgin Mary next to elephant dung and female genitalia pictures. It was targeted as being offensive to some in the Christian community in New York, leading the artist to comment that "This is all about control."
Not bad for a guy who supports a communist anti-war organization!
This article is evidence to the contrary.
Thanks all for the good work done and that to come.
I hope stonewallvets.org has a lot of bandwidth. That flier sure is getting posted often lately.
