McALLEN Now that the Democrats control both houses of Congress, its time for them to listen to the people who elected them and enact immigration reform, the organizer of an immigration activist group said Friday.
Migrant March II, a caravan that departed San Diego on Feb. 2, arrived in Mission on Thursday and stopped for breakfast with local immigrant and anti-racism groups in McAllen on Friday morning.
Last years Migrant March covered more terrain, said organizer Enrique Morones, also the founder of the pro-immigrant group Border Angels, because it was about sparking discussion and encouraging people to demonstrate. This year, its about collecting stories, he said.
Last year, we were able to get a lot of things done. People not only marched, but we registered them to vote and we made the change in Congress got the Democrats in power and thats fantastic, he said. Now that those people are in power, now we want to take those (immigration) stories to Washington, D.C., ... Now we want the immigration reform.
Representatives of several local activist groups, including A Resource in Serving Equality and La Union del Pueblo Entero, read letters from supporters at the South Texas Immigration Council headquarters Friday before the caravan set off for visits to Pharr, Weslaco, Harlingen, San Benito and, finally, a press conference and reception with Brownsville Mayor Eddie Treviño.
This is great here in McAllen to see the community coming out and supporting us, and people getting together to fight racism, said Francisco Dominguez, a photographer who is traveling with the caravan.
About six carloads of participants stopped Thursday at La Lomita mission for a short prayer service and a discussion before they bedded down at a nearby church campground.
After reaching Brownsville on Friday, the caravan was scheduled to return to Eagle Pass today and then head north to San Antonio before making its way back to San Diego.
Border Angels is at the forefront of addressing one of the key civil rights and human rights issues of our time, which is immigration humane immigration and the end of deaths on the border, said Russell Dehnel, a San Diego human rights activist who drove down with his 12-year-old son, Matthew.
We want to have humane and comprehensive immigration reform, Morones said. Theres 12 million undocumented people in the country, and we want all 12 million to have a pathway to legalization. If theyre real criminals, of course they should be in jail, but these people, their only crime is having been born poor.
Stops along the way have included paying homage to people who died crossing the border, either because of harsh conditions or during confrontations with the U.S. Border Patrol. Morones carried a cross Friday inscribed with the words Ni una muerte mas Not one more death.

I couldn't even get past the first sentence! An admission that illegals elected Democrats? An admission that illegals are voting? An admission that Democrats support illegal aliens over American citizens?
Sheesh.....so many questions!
Yep I got the same thing from that sentence.
I find it intriguing that these poor migrants have the money and time to tour the country while bemoaning their fate.
Ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
I see that group has an accurate acronym.
Next time I am in Washington D.C. I will go over the fence that surrounds the White House. When the SS catches me I will just tell them I am a migrant. Watch them let me go!
This whole thing is beyond ridiculous now.
A lot of them get paid cash, pay no taxes, and live many to one apt or house.
Very simple third world life style that can afford them time to do nothing or demonstrate or travel back home.
You can leave comments on the article, but they're moderated so they might not show up. Here's the one I left:
What Perkins forgot to mention is that one of the along for the ride is a Mexican official. And, in Tucson they met with two other people with links to the Mexican government. And, Morones is linked to the (U.S.) Democratic Party.
If the marchers were serious, they'd support the enforcement of our immigration laws. The "reform" they seek will only encourage more people to try to cross the border and make the problem even worse. Perhaps Perkins should have pointed that out to them and tried to find out what they're really after.

Good catch, thanks for the giggle.
Didn't those of us on this side of the aisle warn others of this coming???
ping
Good article on Guiliani. He is full of s---.LOL
The McAllen/Brownsville area didn't get bent out of shape during the last March. These people probably came down here for money. This is one of the largest democrat strongholds in Texas and a lot of money for the Democrat Party comes from this area. One of the Clintons usually makes the trip at least once a year whether it is an election year or not. That says a lot for such an unknown area.
Am I the only one to notice this?
This is just the tip of the iceberg.
I know that, but, do others want to finally see what we've been predicting???
So far, Americans have only fought back AFTER their city or town has been infested with illegals, and the crime rate has seriously increased.
Now that the Dims are in power, it will take many large demonstrations by the general public to turn this around.
Both parties want illegals for their own selfish reasons,
so the fight will have to be substantial.
Their crime is they aren't pure enough for the Mexican elite, who use the United States as a dumping ground.
Wow! Let's have a march where US citizens collect immigration stories too. The one where families and friends have been hurt or killed by ILLEGALS.
