HH: Are you aware of the work of Michael Yon and Bill Roggio?
JB: Im not. Tell me about them.
HH: Well, theyre independents who are out embedded with troops in combat zones from Fallujah to Mosul and into Baghdad, etc.
JB: Yes, Ive heard about them.
HH: So theyre freelance people, and I was wondering if theyd influenced you at all, or if youd met them at all.
JB: No, Ive heard about people who do this. I havent met them, and you know, its
this new media thing is something that were all struggling to cope with, and of course, they have a kind of, if you will, an independence and a free-wheeling way of doing things which I think is all for the good. I think more competition, more voices, more perspectives
bring it on. Its good for all of us, and it keeps us on our toes.
No,yes,no. JB is confused. "new media thing", "struggling to cope with", "bring it on"
I was shocked to read that, too. Don't know how any working and serious journalist in iraq cannot know who Bill Roggio and Michael Yon are. I hope Mr. Burns goes to the web soon to see.
Doubtful. He's struggling to cope with the new media thing but throws down the challenge to bring it on.

Lengthy but worth reading.

"Sounds just like Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam all over?"
Have you ever heard Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, or Jane Fonda take responsibility for what happened in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam? And they wouldn't take responsibility for what will happen in Iraq, either. It would have to be forced on them, by Freepers and people of like mind.
I've not heard of these guys either. Is there a website or blog that carries their reports?
I found it disheartening that he wasn't really aware of the job that Michael Yon is doing to present the war from the military perspective.
This brings up the question of why aren't there more reporters embedded with US troops. If there are only 70 MSM reporters from the US and foriegn countries, that simply isn't enough manpower to cover the war adequately.
If Iraq became the 51st State and Democrats needed votes then they would care. I think we should cut and run from New Orleans honestly.
The socialist pinko liberals viewed then and now an advantage for advancing their own personal agenda without any care for what their actions would have on Americas stability.
Its once again ENDS JUSTIFIES THE MEANS politics. We are still using political correctness to fight the war on terrorism, The media is still reporting from the Green Zone using video footage and photographs from Al jazeera and our enemy for their news reports, The Iraq Study Group, 911 Commission and Senate Select Intelligence Committee are all focused on pre-war intelligence and ignoring the captured documents Jveritas worked on translating declassified by John Negroponte titled the Docex Project that showed clear connections to Al Qaeda and Saddam.
I hope the Mainstream Media, Democrats and Liberals all rot in hell.
John Burns is working for the wrong newspaper.
See Michael Yon's website at www.michaelyon-online.com
Bill Roggio has embedded and has posted many insightful stories about the war at Bill Roggio.com
bump
Based on Yon's reporting, Bruce Willis was inspired to make a movie about the unit
The thing is there are so many great stories to be told about this war, not just from Iraq but from all over the world.
This single sentence fragment tells you that everything else that you read in this article is a GD lie. Period.
According to the claims of one reporter (name escapes), the MSM realized that their embedded reporters were getting "too friendly" with the military and pulled them out -- refusing any further embed opportunities.
All for the sake of their "objectivity", of course.
