Colmes Says Murtha was Right About "Cold Blooded Murder"
Newsbusters ^ | February 9, 2007 | Robin Boyd

Posted on 02/09/2007 8:32:46 PM PST by Chickenhawk Warmonger

Tonight's Hannity and Colmes featured an interview with Col. Oliver North about the media coverage of Iraq and the William Arkin slam against our soldiers. During the course of the interview, Alan Colmes claimed that Rep. John Murtha was right when Murtha accused our Marines of killing innocent civilians in Haditha in cold blood. Col. North immediately reminded Colmes that the Marines had yet to face a trial therefore they were innocent until proven guilty. Colmes replied "there were confessions".

Here's my personal transcript of that portion of the interview... Colmes: Murtha turned out to have correct information. Dick Durbin was talking about treatment gitmo specifically. Col North: Alan, let's deal with these one at a time. Colmes: We don't have a lot of time but let's deal with them. Col. North: There is no proof of what Mr. Murtha said because those trials have not taken place yet. And you believe, as i do. Colmes: There have been convictions. Col. North: Innocent until proven guilty. Colmes: There have been confessions

Colmes was grossly mistaken. There have been no confessions from any of the Marines accused in the Haditha incident. There has yet to be a hearing for these Marines ergo no convictions. Like all American citizens, the Marines are innocent until proven guilty.

Colmes owes these Marines an apology and an on-air correction. John Murtha and the media have done their best to convict these Marines in the court of public opinion. Our soldiers deserve so much better than this.

The upload is taking awhile because I'm saving a copy of the whole interview audio file to my site. You just can't have enough back-up copies of these things! ;)

Step one is done. The excerpted transcript (edited for readability) is at the top of the Defend Our Marines page. Holler if anything needs corrected.

BTW, I'm writing this standing in the potato chips aisle of the grocery store. Since my wife is laid up, I'm doing the shopping. Nothing to it. Chips, pretzels, brewski, a dozen eggs, mustard, a carton of cigarettes and I'm done.

Thanks, Red!

Kit: What else can we can do, Darryl?

Darryl: I would like to be able to speak more about what is happening with my son and the other Marines. The first step was being on your talk show today. But we need to get the word to some form of media in which Haditha isn’t being painted in this negative light. I’ve been publishing small articles. I was able to get on with Phil Brennan at NewsMax. I was able to point out some of the discrepancies of all the reporting.

People need to know the just because a US Congressman came on TV and said these men are guilty, does not make it so. My son and the rest of these Marines need to get a political figure to stand up and say, this is not what happened. Someone with a strong enough national presence to be able to say, let’s wait and see what happened.

That’s what my wife and I are saying. We have some strong evidence, but the evidence can’t get out. Phil Brennan has told us he a Marine intelligence officer who was in Base Sparta that day. He saw and heard what went on in Haditha. He arrived in Haditha some fifteen minutes later with the QRF force, and these Marines were under fire. This was not a massacre. But we can’t get this out because there’s no media that wants to put it out. They are fueling their own agenda.

I just feel so powerless. We’re sitting here trying to fight the US government. It is really hard.

The congressman is just bullying the generals. They are bullying the American public. And I feel helpless. And we feel that we have a good group of attorneys who will be able to get this information out in the Article 32 hearing but, again, we’re just sitting here and our life…it’s just been tough.

Kit: Darryl, you have time on my show anytime you want.

Darryl: I appreciate that. And I would just like to make one statement. It’s a prepared statement. I’ve done a lot of thinking on it.

The US government has spent millions of dollars, and countless hours, investigating Haditha.

And on December 21st, four NCOs and four officers were charged in the Haditha engagement.

What I would like to ask the government is, where are the arrest warrants for the murderers of Lance Corporal Terrazas?

That’s what bothers me so much.

We had a US Marine killed that day. We had two injured. And they’re spending all this money trying to convict my son but no one has found Terrazas’ murderers.

Tim: Darryl, on behalf of the Marines I work with around the country and the folks on Free Republic and other places: you’re not alone. We will fight with you every day. And please tell the guys I said, Semper Fi.

Darryl: I just want to ask the American public to think about what they’re seeing. We’re so busy with our everyday lives that they just take the word of a US congressman and they take the word of the media. That’s where we’re running into trouble.

President Bush told us that this was a war. It was going to be rough. The US military and coalition forces destroyed the fifth largest army in the world, and they made it look easy. And we got complacent. Now we’re still in a war and these terrorists will follow us back to the US and we have to back our military and we have to back President Bush. We’re either going to be fighting the terrorists in Iraq or we’ll be fighting them on the streets of America. And I’d rather not see them here in my hometown.

Okay, here's step two. The blog is up: Will Fox News Be Fair and Balanced About Our Marines?: A Haditha Marine Father Has a Question for Alan Colmes.

I have to run back to the store because I got the wrong kind of ginger snaps. If anyone of you see a way to make it stronger or have any criticism, let me know. When I get back, let's start round two of the e-mail campaign and see if we can get other bloggers onboard.

Loud and clear. The use of "reckless" is perfect. Maybe Hannity should match whatever Colmes donates.

Sean Hannity and Ollie North both. It would help A LOT to get publicity for the funds. That's the real goal. BTW, did you see the interview transcript? There was a caller from your neck of the woods. ;)

In the end, the defense lawyers must provide adequate reasons to prove these Marines did not break their ROE, and did not commit intentional murder.
It really boils down to that. Regardless of what the L/MSM or demorats may try to pull off, the JAG officers must recognize what the facts are regarding all these recent cases of alleged charges brought against our soldiers and Marines.
