You were here prior to and during the 2000 primaries and election, was it this divided then? Did they hate George Bush as much as they hate Rudy Guiliani? Who was their favored candidate then? And by "they" I of course mean the so-called purists who condemn most of the rest of us who have opinions beyond their narrow range of acceptability.

I recall 2000. I remember people were suspicious of George W. Bush, but were much more willing to give the man a chance. Yes, there were some people who were running into the undergrowth yelling something indecipherable about the Bilderbergers and the CFR, but overall, there was unity, more or less, once it came down to it.

The present fracture is dangerous and wrong - if this continues, it will create a split that will not be easily healed. Furthermore, infighting is going to distract the Republicans from crafting a "Morning in America" type campaign that they desperately need.

Regards, Ivan

No, George Bush did not offend as many conservatives as Guilianni does.

I for one, realizing GB wasn't the staunch committed conservative I would have preferred, strongly supported his candidacy, as did many other conservatives.

Yes, I was here and somehow managed to live through that WAR.

Yes, it was THAT divided and vile and nasty; just a bit later into everything, than now. The garbage, posted against now President Bush and his supporters began in '99. The same people who are against Rudy, who survived the very late in the day purges, were virulently against W back then.

There were several factions...those who favored Pat Buchanan, those for Alan Keyes, and the Libertarians............all ganging up against now President Bush and his supporters.

And there were NO Mods here in '99, so you can only try to imagine what THAT was like; you'll never come close to really being able to imagine that!
